tachycardia and afib

fast and irregular heartbeat has and is ruining my life. Most people only have to go through the feeling of dying once in a lifetime. Every time my heart beats rapid or irregular I have to experience the possiblity of death. As such I have become scared depress sad and isolated. Paradox is: that Im afraid to 'spread my wings and go to remote places, because if I have an attack--how will I get to a hospital and surrvive. So I isolate myself and don't spread my wings. Yet by nature I am an adventurer--so this isolation leads to more depression. What is the lesson in all of this. I am so afraid of dying that I think of suicide to end it I am so sick of living in this FEAR. The doctors SUCK--they never have any good solid advice. I read and read--seems others find ways to heal. Ijust cannot seem to connect with someone who can help. I was a butterfly who turned into a moth from the fear of dying while I try to live.

I too have a-fib and depression---i have been fighting it (A-fib) for 15 years, the first five years I just let it do its thing until the palps quit. My doc chewed my lower posterior for not saying anything about it; but with having depression, I didn't care if it ended my existence. You should be put on Coumadin or Warfarin to prevent a clot that forms in the left side of the heart so that you'll be protected from a stroke. Also cardio ablation can or may eliminate the palps. It doesn't hurt as I had Cryo-ablation done a month ago. The palps still come and go; and I feel kinda crappy in the chest, but at least they are not as bad as they were and my doc promises that we can eliminate them. Find a cardiologist that you trust and get started on the road to a healthy heart...good luck to you...now I have to work on that depression that has put my life, and goals on hold. I'll take the heart palps over the depression any day...take care.

tulip123, I know exactly what your going through. I feel the same way. When my heart beats fast, I get scared, it takes me days just to feel safe again. I have put my life on hold, it really is depressing. I don't want to burden my family with it. I also feel isolated, my friends haven't been through it so they don't understand. Fear is with me every day since my diagnosis. Keep trying to find a good Dr. Thats what I'm doing, haven't found one yet but I will.

i have been trying to sleep for days and every time i do i wake up with my heart racing and that looming feeling of despair. i feel weak, get the chills start shaking. i do not want to be left alone. i cant get the doctors to understand me. they say the heart is good. had an ablation years ago. i pray every day. pray for an answer. all i know is i shouldn't be waking up in the middle of the night feeling like my life is trying to be stolen from me. God help you and save you from this torment so you can live this beautiful life to your full potential and with joy not fear. the answer will come don't ever give up there is no glory in the grave. there are lives you haven't touched yet. don't give up on that opportunity and don't give up on yourself. keep up the fight. the answer will come. it will come.

I had a-fib - then I had a cardiac ablation and I was back to my old self. 5 years later I have to have 4 or 5 by-pass on my heart - So see if you have clogged arteries like me

I'd recommend you consider talking to another cardiologist - an electrophysiologist - if you haven't already. I had to have 3 ablations done before the last one finally solved the issue. I didn't have afibs, I had ventricular tachycardia, so don't know if that makes a difference. My understanding is that ventricular ablations are trickier and often need to be done more than once. I do know that it is not unusual for people to require more than one ablation, though.
