Seasonal Affects Disorder

Posted by KristianLukeJones @kristianlukejones, Dec 1, 2011

Hi,

My name is Kristian Jones and i am currently studying product design at loughborough university.

For my final year product i am studying "seasonal affects disorder" and designing a phototherapy light to help combat it.

If anybody is suffering from seasonal affects disorder and would like to post their opinions on what they think of "SAD lights" as form of therapy and how they believe that they could be improved. I would be very grateful for any comment.

Thank you for you time.

Well I have had several boxes. I would really like small one that fits on a night stand and starts coming on gradually in the morning until it is full on. One that can be set. Personally I need one just to get up, so the idea of sitting next to one for 30 reading is a joke. I need it on b4 I can get up! Would also like a portable one for travel. I think if there was a clip- on for a bathroom mirror, it would be handy while you get ready in the morning. They seem to really work, but most of them r pretty cumbersome so people don't get full use out of them. Gal from Alaska

Hello Kristian, I have Seasonal Affective Disorder. Use a light box that is pro-
fessionally made. Sit down about 2 to 3 feet from it in the morning right after you get up. Sit at a table or counter and set a a timer for 45 minutes everyday. Later on in the day you may be a little shaky. That is not serious and goes away after 1 or 2 days. Untreated SAD is a living hell. Some people may need an antidepressant during the dark winter ;months. If you have SAD see a psychiatrist. They are trained to counsel you and help you .
