Thyroid

Posted by ellennoanswers44 @ellennoanswers44, Dec 18, 2021

Had total thyroid removal when 26. Never given medicine. Throughout next 47 years had problems off and on. Had all the test. Checked normal. Although left eye would increase / decrease in size. Final scans showed thyroid had grown back. Now thyroid test level is 672. Medicine changed twice. I have serve eroded esophagus. Does one effect the other?

Hello @ellennoanswers44 and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Can I start by clarifying if you are asking if there is a correlation between your thyroid and your eroded esophagus?

REPLY

Yes. And asking about how common is it for thyroid to grow back after surgery.

I went to a specialist about two years ago and she on top of being rude told me I had a beautiful thyroid and never had surgery to remove my thyroid.

Yes and why is there not a lot of info about thyroid growing back after surgery?

If you know what clinic / hospital removed your thyroid, contact their medical records dept and ask for your medical records. Hopefully they still have records. Some clinics never destroy records. When I requested records for my deceased mother, it went back to early 50s.

The records would show what was removed and why.
