When we have hope, we discover powers within ourselves we may have never known- the power to make sacrifices, to endure, to heal, and to love. Once we choose hope, everything is possible.

Thanks for starting this discussion @audriana - Hope is such a powerful word. One of my favorite quotes on hope...

"Even in the inevitable moments when all seems hopeless, men know that without hope they cannot really live, and in agonizing desperation they cry for the bread of hope." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

@paulalina Upon reflection, I have alot of stories about my encounters with birds. These are my top 3.

In 1978 we were stationed in NJ, for 4 years. Every morning, at O dark thirty, the birds started chirping. For days, their A.M. conversations awakened me and drove me crazy. Then I had a Gestalt--a light bulb suddenly turned on: Thank God I can hear the birds 🐦...I wasn't born deaf. I instantly reframed my aggravation to Serenity. .

Every morning I hope I hear their joyous concerts.

Then in 2011, my last psych hospitalization, (10 years--Yay!) I met the in-patient psychiatrist and he honed in on the efficacy of hope.
As I returned to the rec room, a Blue Bird was perched outside, near the window. I had a Blue Bird of Happiness moment and that experience has had a positive impact upon me ever since.

Lastly, ( I hope not finally...) an acquaintance and I were downtown, sitting on a bench, and straining to engage in small talk. She and I didn't exactly like each other, but we weren't enemies. Anyway, with no trees around, and a view of a clear blue sky,, a bird used my head for target practice and dumped his load with precise aim. Splat!!! is an understatement 😫. I was horrified. I was embarrassed. I was helpless. I had nothing to scoop the poop.
My friend reached into her purse and brought out diaper wipes. She proceeded to patiently clean my hair and scalp and said, "I hear this is a sign of good luck!" I certainly hope so. Her act of kindness is unforgettable.

"Hope is the elixir of life." by Me...lol

When I watched the movie "Under The Tuscan Sun" there was a scene where the main character got that bird poop treatment, that was when the homeowner decided to sell her the house! Thank you, Shirley for sharing these lovely moments.
