Yes. I've had it for 44 years. First drug was lomotil. It was awful . I had terrible side effects. Them I started to take metamucil. The recommended dosage was too much for me. It made me very constipated. I found that 1/2 teaspoon daily worked for me. I have felt better since trying it. this year, medication I take for blood pressure have made me constipated. I eat 2 to 4 prunes daily. This has helped keep my IBS under control. I had heard about metamucil from an interview with Lee Iacocca. He had been using it for years. If you try it, I highly suggest that you don't follow the instructions on the label. Take a little and build up gradually until you find the amount that works for you. Too much can cause you to have constipation.

@colleenyoung and all: I've had IBS for years, with treatment (pills) from several G.I.s in several cities. My current G.I. used no prescription medication for about 8 or 9 months, and instead had me use frequently adjusted doses of both Metamucil and Lax-a-Day every morning. He eventually prescribed Pinaverium, and ultimately Constella, with disastrous results, so I went back on the Metamucil and Lax-a-Day each morning. I've learned to stick to a very restricted glucose-free and lactose-free diet of foods I know I can tolerate. I'm now taking one level tablespoon of Metamucil with a full glass of water, followed by one "bottle lid" dose (up to the top marker) of Lax-a-Day mixed with my hot morning coffee, (it doesn't alter the taste) every morning.
I'm delighted to report that my IBS symptoms have totally backed off for 5 or 6 weeks now! My digestive system is working regularly and perfectly. It seems like a miracle. First time ever!
I've finally learned that I can't dare stray off my strict diet regime or I'm in trouble again, so I don't stray!
Gratefully, Laurie

I have had 3 years of IBS/C. Have had every test I think possible. I have been on strict diet (can’t stray from it) taking Linzess
on empty stomach each morning, 290 mg
and 2 IB Guards at least 1/2 hour before eating. This worked for a while then cramping and constipation returned.
Then got the results of the “ stomach emptying” test.
Now my diagnosis is Gastricparesis .
This was diagnosed in August of 2021 and have not yet seen the doctor in the Motility Clinic in Louisville.
I have had compacted bowel after 3 days on liquid diet and a day of Gatorade mixed with MiraLax as directed by phone by Motility Clinic doctor. I had to go into the ER and have 2 glasses of Barium Enema and a doctor manually remove all the stool.
I went from 130 to 88 pounds.
I think I may die!
