Are cardiovascular services available yet in Mayo Clinic Florida?

At the wikipedia article for Mayo Clinic Florida, I read:

"With a $70.5 million expansion plan, more than 300,000 square feet (28,000 m2) of space will be built over the course of five years beginning in 2017.[3] This will allow for the growth of hundreds of staff positions and 100 physicians.[3] The expansion will provide: space for **cardiovascular** , radiology and **cardio-thoracic surgery** program areas, expansion of the spine center and pain rehabilitation programs, additional surgical rooms, space and equipment to establish a molecular imaging center for radiology and laboratory expansion."

It's been almost 5 years since 2017. Does anyone know if cardiovascular services are available at Mayo Clinic Florida yet?

Hi @fordsubmariner and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Glad to have you! The Cardiovascular division and Cardio-thoracic surgery have always been available, The expansion just made room for their program areas since Mayo is a teaching hospital.

@fordsubmariner I'm having a nuclear heart scan next Monday, much to my disdain. Don't want to but am having issues that need to be addressed and who but my Mayo doc??? I'm very pleased with the cardiology care. Maybe we'll see each other there......There's a lot of building and expansion going on right now.
Taking good care of my body and improving my life greatly.

I'm glad to learn that The Cardiovascular division and Cardio-thoracic surgery have always been available.

After a recent stress echocardiogram, an early glimpse of the result summary shows I was given a differential diagnosis that included a small VSD in the muscular region of the septum.

I'm scheduled to meet with my cardiologist on Nov 30, but I've read that surgery may be an appropriate treatment. If I'm gonna have heart surgery, I would want it done at The Mayo Clinic Florida, so I'm doing some early contingency planning.

Do you know approximately what the wait times are like for such surgeries there?

I'm sorry you're not looking forward to your nuclear heart scan, but if you need it, then I think it's great you're having it done at The Mayo Clinic. I hope you'll keep us posted on how it goes and results.

In case you've not yet encountered it, I'll share a poem that I find to be both wise and rewarding.

It's entitled "Desiderata" and the author is Max Ehrmann. You can find the entire text at desiderata dot com, but I'm still too new in this forum to be allowed to post URLs.

@fordsubmariner Hi Kevin,
Unfortunately, it is all tailored around the needs of the specific patient and the availability of the surgeons. Your cardiologist would need to refer you to a surgeon and then they will be able to start the process and move forward.

It might be advantageous for you to call the central appointment office and set up an account and get your patient MRN number which identifies you in the system and have them run your insurance to make sure you are in network. That way, when your physician calls or faxes a referral, they already have all of your information.
