Glaucoma and Cannabis/Marijuana

Posted by Valerie @lacy2, Mar 9, 2021

I have glaucoma and live in Canada and watching my very first Webinar ! It is a Doctor from Glaucoma Research Society of Canada...and he is answering questions. Not sure if this has been discussed in any other section but someone asked about Cannabis use. I remember couple years ago they were saying Cannabis lowered eye pressure. This Dr. has just explained that they thought it did, drop pressure, but then found out CBD does not. Its is the THC and would have to take a lot to have effect and (basically would be high most of the time). I was interested in this because lots of people suggest I use cannabis and I could for other reasons, but not for Glaucoma... really enjoyed first Webinar and will listen to more on various subjects in the future. Just thought might be of interest if not already discussed? J

Lacy, yes, you really need a good ophthalmologist if you can find one that is accessible to you. I wonder if your optometrist could set up a "Telehealth" or virtual visit with a glaucoma specialist from his or her office? Just a thought. We drive two hours for my visits with mine, which is not bad considering it could be much worse. Good luck with your pain management, too!

...thank yu for suggestion. unfortunately our optometrists(Ontario) are working to rule as upset government not increased what they pay optoms. for eye exams, so doubt if he/they will spend time doing something not paid for... i see both sides of the issue, with clients in the middle, as usual. J. p.s. 4 hour drive each way to see top man i saw before but with F.I. and other issues cant travel that far, stay over etc. too bad for me. Yes right now can only take Tylenol, doesn't cut it. J.

Hello! I truly understand your dilemma. I have peripheral neuropathy (pain), arthritis pain, and a long history with glaucoma. Prednisone and other steroids to treat my body and autoimmune disease have worsened the glaucoma. Fortunately, the glaucoma meds I take are keeping the pressures stable, and I am also using medical cannabis for pain. I stick with a 1:1 ratio of THC to CBD, which is working so far. But I've had glaucoma for a long time. Don't know if this is helpful or what you already understand, but I wish you all the best in managing your eye condition and your pain. It can be very frustrating!

you could try accupunture to loosen the arthritis pain, I've done it 5 times and my arthritis on shoulders gone.
