Kidney Transplant Outcomes for people who’ve had COVID

Is there any information on kidney transplant outcomes for people who have had Covid prior to transplant?

Great question @tjdog. I don’t think the medical world has enough data at this point in time to know the answer. Have you contracted COVID? Did you experience symptoms?

I did not @colleenyoung. My nephew did. He was fully vaccinated, but got breakthrough covid twice. He was originally scheduled for the transplant in July, but it was postponed until August 30th because he had covid. The living donor kidney is taking a long time to “wake up” and he’s had fluid buildup in his lungs and scrotum. That’s why I asked.

@tjdog, I have not seen any data relating to vaccinated nephew who had breakthrough covid. Is your nephew experiencing any improvement?

Thanks for asking. He’s out of the hospital and still has a few issues that he’s recovering from. But kidney is working fine.
