Alzheimer's and Incontinence

Has anyone dealt with a loved one who repeatedly takes off their diapers in bed and then soils the bed? Tying the waist cord of the pajama bottoms tightly has not prevented her from getting them off. I take her to the bathroom every 4 hours but this has not worked either. A 3 hour interval means that she may not void.

Our urologist help us diagnose & manage the bladder issues. The external catheters were prescribed and are obtained from a local medical supply office. Medicare covers the cost. The medical supply company sent us incontinence Samples
To try and we purchase from them. They are superior to anything you might find in any retail store. Attends are better than depends, but the Prevail brand is what the supplier carries and works well. The adjustable briefs allow for adjusting around the legs.
Bed pads are not cheap, but worth it. They Also come from the medical supply house. May also get lucky at estate sales or thrift stores.

All of these things about incontinence have been over the past 5 years. Whenever there are new behavior issues & increased incontinence I call the urologist for an order to get him checked for a UTI. We had a really bad infection this spring that I missed because I attributed his increased confusion to his Covid shot a
Few days before. It turned into a life threatening kidney infection overnight. We have finally had some relief from his rerring UTI’s when his Dr prescribed a long term preventive antibiotic to take once a day. It has been quite a game changer for us. . It is so good to be assured the source of his confusion, behaviors, and physical weakness is not an infection. He actually has some good times everyday, usually in the late morning which is encouraging. So when things get strangely worse suddenly, we call the urologist to rule out a UTI which Usually proves to be the source of the symptoms listed above.
