Skin Cancer/Squamous Carcinoma

Posted by magspierce @magspierce, Aug 24, 2017

Hi everyone! I'm new, today, and have looked through the topics on skin and haven't seen one about skin cancer. I have squamous carcinoma, have had several taken off, by excision, frozen, topical ointment/cream, and years ago burnt off.
I'm wondering if any of you who have a skin cancer and what you use as a moisturizer. I use Neutragena 100 spf when I'm going to be out in the sun, but have not been able to find a lotion/moisturizer that really helps. I also have very dry skin and my arms get so scaly often, this used to be in the winter only but now is in the summer time too. Thanks in advance!

Just got word Friday that Mayo denied my visit, no explanation, just denied! Interesting! Good luck to all, guess I didn’t meet their criteria!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I know how crushing that news can be. The denial is likely due to one of two reasons.

The review by the physician team led them to determine that Mayo Clinic cannot offer treatment that differs from what you are already receiving. Mayo’s goal is to provide the best care each patient needs, but does not want you to incur additional costs for evaluation or travel if local options are available.

Or it may be that the department has few available appointments. Unfortunately because Mayo Clinic has more requests for appointments than available openings, other factors come into play. Appointments at Mayo Clinic are prioritized on the basis of medical need. Availability depends on the nature and urgency of the problem and Mayo Clinic's ability to help (as determined by a Mayo Clinic physician team).

Did you self refer or did your hematologist make the referral?

Are you here in Jacksonville? First Coast Dermatology is wonderful. I go to the Mayo Clinic but use to go to First Coast. The MOH surgeon at Mayo left recently and the new one might be backed up.
