Got Pfizer Feb- SIRVA next day -concerned that vaccine did not take

Posted by katherine345 @katherine345, Jun 10, 2021

Associate attending Physician at a major NY hospital who writes for 150 newspapers in March wrote " Though it is possible the cell around the bursa could express some COVID-19 protein, I recommend that a person who developed SIVA after COVID-19 vaccination restart the 2-dose vaccine series." I have SIRVA (frozen shoulder -diagnosed-Adhesive capsulitis of left shoulder<br I have had consistent pain since the day after my 1st Pfizer -got the second dose. I has been 3 months since my vaccine. My doctor disregarded the NY dr.'s statement saying I should be careful and wait for the booster shots. Dr Fauci states that 1 Pfizer is only 33% effective against the new variants. I work with people who arrive from foreign countries - teaching adults. I'm in my 60s & must return to work in August. I got an anti body test on my own which suggest I may have some vaccine in my system, but the independent lab states that these tests are not proven and can't determine immunity. I don't know any Doctors who have information on this issue. I live in CA. Is there any medical group who can speak to this issue? Is it safe to get a 3rd Pfizer vaccine (3 months after the 1st & 2nd dose) because it's likely the first dose didn't take? Thank you, katherine345

Congratulations. I live in Los Angeles. As far as I know no major medical center here is giving antibody tests. I was told that UCLA won't allow them as they don't have the science to interpret the test yet. Sounds like Mayo is more advanced. Maybe I can get a video conference w/ a Mayo Dr. who could lead me to a reliable antibody test. Does anyone know of a Mayo Doctor that might advise me on this?

I had the antibody test at the Mayo Clinic last week and happy to report I scored over 500 with a Positive! So even with SIRVA, I am fully vaccinated!

What was the name of this test? I have an antibody test done at HyVee once a month and I have been looking for a place that does a Tcell test for antibodies. The test I do at HyVee just tells me I still have the antibodies. It does not tell be at what level. I was hospitalized for 7 days in November. I have not had a vaccine.

@baz10 WOW! After reading all of the responses above, I am still scared stiff to get a Covid vaccine. I have asthma and some COPD and know it will be safer for me if I get the vaccine, but worry about having side effects. Thinking the J&J will be the best way to go. Husband had Pfizer and had no problems and Son had J&J and no problems. Any comments will be appreciated. Baz10

My mother had Moderna. Her blood iron levels tanked and she is now anemic (never had a problem before). The doctors found no internal bleeding or any other causes associated with anemia. She started to experience severe fluid retention with swelling in her extremities and trouble breathing from the amount of fluid around her heart and lungs that finally culminated in congestive heart failure. They have her on high doses of diuretics to try and control it but still has days where she retains too much fluid. I've found on this site and other sites, other people having the same issues after Moderna or Pfizer. One of my best friends received Pfizer in April. He still hasn't been able to taste food correctly nearly four months later and can't eat meat as it now tastes like a combination of metallic and rancid. Another friend's 19-year-old son experienced enlarged heart issues after the J&J shot. And these are short-term effects. What are the long-term effects? We have no idea. This is still called a drug trial for a reason.

Hi @middleageguy I am so sorry for what your family and friends have endured due to the covid vaccines. I agree it is a trial vaccine. I believe many people are forgetting that the FDA approved it for emergency use and therefore there is no study for long term effects. Since it was authorized under emergency use there was not enough time to conduct tests for long term effects. Unfortunately, people have to decide what is best for them. If someone wants to be amongst the public then perhaps the vaccine is a better alternative than a covid infection considering their medical history. On the other hand if that someone has a low exposure risk i.e. not being around other individuals then perhaps that individual may not want to chance the possible side effects of the vaccine. It all depends what is important to each individual….their lifestyle. I see the news is reporting 90% or above of hospitalized covid infections are with individuals that have not been vaccinated. We all have choices to make. I don’t understand why individuals (vaccinated or unvaccinated) are letting their guard down in protecting themselves especially with the variants doing around. We should do our best to not contract the covid infection. My heart goes out to those suffering from the side effects of the covid infection and/or the side effects of the covid vaccines. Wish everyone all the best in finding a solution to all their health issues as a result.

Is there any test that tells if the vaccine for Covid is still effective or do I need a booster shop

My older sister-in-law who has stents, high BP, and other medical issues, got the Moderna vaccine in February or March and within a week she had trouble breathing and her leg swelled and she had fluid build up around her heart/lungs. She still has the swelling of both legs and feet but her breathing is better. She of course couldn't get the 2nd shot and wishes that she had not gotten the first. This is one of the reasons that I have been so hesitant on getting the vaccine. I have no trouble with the flu vaccine and pneumonia vaccine. Baz10

Here is the current Mayo guidance on vaccine boosters: "Are COVID-19 vaccine boosters recommended?
Currently, the CDC and the FDA state that people in the U.S. who have been fully vaccinated don’t need a vaccine booster. This is because fully vaccinated people are protected from severe disease and death with the COVID-19 virus, including from COVID-19 variants. Most COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths are among people who are unvaccinated.

However, COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers continue to research and test booster doses."

As the Delta variant spreads, and CDC, FDA & the vaccine manufacturers begin to learn more, it is quite likely a booster will be recommended, at least for the most vulnerable people.

As for an anti-body test, there are a couple tests being used very selectively on people on immunosuppressant drugs, such as transplant patients. The rest of us are being asked to wait for further guidance.
