Tall tales and (I hope) harmless silliness corner.

At the prescription counter yesterday a guy next to me was writing a check for a box of saline solution ampules. Naturally it got my attention. Now get this; I sneaked peek at the name on the check and did a double-take. I was standing next to Neb U. Lizer.

If I recollect, Neb U Lizer was the grandson of a lovely German lady named, Frau Dulent. Wonder how she’s doing…

Texas has been my part time home since 1963. Used to be N of Dallas, now far south, on the border.

I remember you mentioning that before in less detail. Any interesting memories to share?

How big it is! So many memories - here are a couple very early ones.

In pre-expressway days, we couldn't figure out why such a dry state had such deep roadside ditches - until we drove into our first real Texas downpour and the ditches filled up in a few minutes - and all the tarantulas and armadillos came up on the road. Crunch, crunch, crunch.

Or maybe, leaving Minnesota in a March snowstorm, going tenting on Galveston Beach, and getting a sunburn on Easter morning?

Or finding out they build houses without basements? Never heard of such a thing before.

What's your favorite transplant story?

New topic: In the days of yore at a time before I learned that the $1,300.00 rambunctious Respirtech Percussion Vest my Pulmo persuaded Medicare to buy for me was superfluous*, yeah while being jostled around one evening I penned this ditty. You old timers can roll your eyes while the newer bunch have a look.
To the tune of Gene Autry’s “I’m Back in the Saddle Again.“ “I’m ridin’ ole Thumper again.
Chasin’ that old Devil phlegm.
If I don’t git him now,
there’s always a next round,
I know I’ll git him somehow.
Yippie ty yi a, goin’ my way
Ridin’ ole Thumper again.“

*Superflous by dint of my gradual realization that the “Thumper” didn’t seem to add noticeably to the result of “nebulizer only.” Don
