Does anyone have any information about this indication please?

Hello, @bride, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Here are two helpful articles from the National Institutes of Health on midfacial pain syndrome/segment pain:

- Midfacial segment pain: implications for rhinitis and sinusitis https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15056400

- Management of Chronic Facial Pain https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3052669/

Sounds as though some classify this type of facial pain as a subset of trigeminal neuralgia. Do you agree? Also, do you have midsegment facial pain personally?

Thank you Lisa. I do have this diagnosis after being misdiagnosed with sinusitis. What I mostly feel is pressure over my nose and a feeling of sensitivity in the nasal passages. I have had non allergic rhinitis for years but this is different. However for the moment it seems manageable with occasional painkillers. I would however really appreciate any input or advice. Or, if I can offer any.

@bride-Hi. I wanted to provide this link to you. I received it from an ENT whom is very proactive in helping patients to understand the way sensations/pain can present in the nose. I hope it helps you ☺️

Thank you! Understanding the problem helps me manage my chronic sinusitis more effectively. There is a lot of confusion surrounding the subject. This course also helped me. https://www.coursera.org/learn/icahn-school-of-medicine-at-mount-sinai-acute-and-chronic-rhinosinusitis

@bride-thank you! Can you share with me how you were diagnosed with mid-segment facial pain? What did you feel first? And do you know what brought/brings it on?

REPLY

This was later considered a misdiagnosis. On cat scan the scan showed dysfunctional mucosa and therefore the diagnosis changed to chronic sinusitis. The symptoms are similar: Pressure over the bridge of the nose and sense of nasal inflammation. But generally they do not believe chronic sinusitis co exists with mid segment pain. Who knows?

@bride-thank you for sharing. Who knows is correct. Most just give a txt book “diagnosis” to make the patient happy, prescribe something, and submit the diagnosis code to insurance for payment. Send you on your way in 15 min. A general ER doctor diagnosed me correctly over ENTs.
