Is Mayo-J as good as Mayo-R for diagnostics?

Posted by sue1234 @sue1234, Jan 26, 2012

I am not trying to be rude to Mayo-J, but I do live in the south and wouldn't mind going there, as it is closer. However, I seem to have a difficult diagnosis for my local endos. I have a 20 year history of hypoglycemia(no diabetes) that is getting much worse. I also have small growths on my adrenals. Whatever this is, it affects my quality of life(what life?? I have none!) I've been looked at for an insulinoma(rare) and a pheochromocytoma(rare), and now have an elevated level of a neuropeptide that is VERY rare. I would love to go somewhere closer, if possible. Can Mayo-J handle a good mystery case?

Well, I made the appt. with Mayo-J. I have put my faith in them being able to figure this out!

Hi Sue - I am glad you made an appointment with Mayo Clinic in Florida. We operate on an enterprise basis meaning all three sites are able to work together and coordinate care if need be.

The way this question is asked might imply you have potentially sought insights about the Clinics' sites already? Keep in mind that each location should definitely be able to either diagnose or to identify cases where referrals to a site more appropriately equipped for a case may be necessary. The answer to your care may be right in front of you or it may NOT??... Disease doesn't necessarily match or correlate geographically to poper care. As, actually both sites would reflect this through the many cases that are resulting from referals that are succesfully handled at each site respectively(including mystery or specialty cases). Understand that this is also a potentially a difficult question to be addressed by a professional who might have an accurate idea from either site. Ultimately, I hope for you to make the best decision based on continued learning, inquiry, and eventual experience. Mayo Clinic is already an excellent choice so far. (Disclamer;) I can only speak from being a patient at Rochester myself.)

I have just been to Mayo-J in may 2021. They sent me to Mayo-R to see Dr Adrian Vella. I’m here now July 2021 awaiting my appointment for the morning. I’ll let you know what they say

How did you like Mayo R? I go there and so far have seen a marked difference and attention to my previous chart. They really do look into everything I went through and discuss between departments before deciding on medication. It makes me feel very comfortable especially for such a busy place. I actually have another test or two before they will decide how to go forward. I love that everyone has input.
