Salvage Radiation for Prostate Cancer

Posted by round5 @round5, Jun 26, 2021

Anyone have salvage radiation twice or know of anyone who has? I’m here at Mayo doing just that.

Depends, I had SRT to the prostate bed in March 2016, 39 IMRT, 702. Gya, then in July 17 25 IMRT to the PLNs, 45 Gya.

Hi @round5, welcome to the Prostate Cancer group. You are in good hands at Mayo Clinic. How many rounds of salvage radiation will you have this time around?

Overlapping the top of the previous area but then extending higher up in the abdomen.

I had 39 salvage radiation treatments approximately 7 years ago and now am experiencing bowel cramping and IBS symptoms. Anyone else out there have any long term issues with salvage radiation ? Thank you Stephen.

Hello @firespooks. I am sorry you are experiencing these symptoms.

You will notice that I have moved your post into an existing discussion on salvage radiation, which you can find here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/salvage-radiation/

I did this so you may connect with members like @round5 who had done two rounds of salvage radiation treatment.

Have you always had some type of GI symptoms following your treatment or has this just come on recently?

This has come on about 4 months ago.

I’m only a year out from my salvage radiation and don’t seem to have any GI issues related to it. But the Leuprolide is a total different story. 10 months since my last 6 month shot and testosterone still in the toilet at 14.

14 what? 14 nanograms/ml? That’s really low for one injection of Lupron. I have received over 40 injections of Lupron (1 every 3 months) over 11 years and don’t remember my “T” levels ever staying that low that long.
