Hi Colleen: This is so interesting. I signed up for the Polymyalgia Rheumatica/Giant Cell Arteritis site which is my diagnosis, then I saw the one on Dementia and my husband is now beginning that journey. Just as I was about to close this down today, I saw the one on Esophageal Cancer, and my dear son on law had surgery for that today. It went well, but it is not an easy diagnosis to deal with. He's a really fine man, and it sometimes seems like too much is going on. My son is having surgery on Thursday. These are young people who eat right and exercise, and have busy interesting lives with good jobs, and nice families. I can accept it with myself and my husband because our bodies have been around for a while, but the young ones can get to me. Be well and have a good evening. Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth, members have often shared that they join Mayo Clinic Connect for one reason or diagnosis and then find over time that they are several groups relevant to them and their family and friends. You can see the complete Group Directory here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/groups/

Esophageal cancer is a challenging diagnosis to be sure I hope your son-in-law might consider joining the discussions in the Esophageal Cancer group and/or joining the monthly support group meetings.

All the best for your son’s surgery on Thursday too. What is his surgery?
