COVID Vaccine in kids: Questions about myocarditis risk and recovery

Posted by fdodelap @fdodelap, Jun 6, 2021

My 13 years old son is scheduled for his COVID-19 vaccination; however, I'm reading contradictory information about the vaccine's side effects. For example, there are increased reported cases of myocarditis. But, on the other hand, I read about kids getting myocarditis after they got COVID.
So, is there a correlation between kids with a pre-existing condition that may trigger myocarditis and the vaccine's side effects and/or the disease?

To be more precise, it is safe to say that the COVID vaccine is safe in children; however, if a kid will have myocarditis, he will have it either with a vaccine or the disease?

Thank you!

What does your child’s doctor say about the possibility of myocarditis?
Tell us a little more about your son. Does he have a health condition that you are concerned about?

Thank you. I hear frequently that the odds overweighs the risks.

I'm wondering if kids developing myocarditis heals completely after some treatment?

I read about some cases of children with myocarditis after getting COVID or a few after the vaccine. I'm trying to find literature regarding if it's a permanent condition or something that medicine can completely cure. Any thoughts? Thank you!

@fdodelap I really understand your worry. The CDC says the incidence of myocarditis is rare and those children who get usually recover well.

What has his doctor said? Does he recommend the vaccine for your son? Becky

From the limited number of cases with myocarditis it appears they heal completely within a short time. However , this age group has not received the vaccine for very long so follow up studies are limited.
The conclusion is that the benefits outweigh the risks.

Will your son be getting the Covid vaccine?

I too have been trying to find an answer to this exact question - would COVID create the same condition that the vaccine is creating in kids, and would the condition perhaps be worse if they get COVID

Will your son be getting the Covid vaccine?

Hello everyone. I have two boys. One age 10 one age 17 and neither one of my boys have or will be getting the vaccine. There are many many many scientists and doctors and reliable sources out there besides the CDC. And many of them do not believe that it is necessary for young children to receive the vaccine. According to one study in England, The overall mortality rate for children is about 2 deaths per 1 million COVID cases. Now, I am no scientist I am no Harvard expert but those odds seem very very good of my child recovering from Covid if he gets it. So to avoid having to even worry about heart conditions myocarditis etc. I choose not to get them vaccinated. I know this might seem controversial to some of you, and I’m not trying to start any drama here whatsoever I think that everyone should do their own research and make the choice that they feel in their heart is the best for their child. That is what I am doing. I pray God keep all of our children safe during this difficult time.
