My indoor garden.

Posted by artist01 @artist01, May 25, 2021

I'm envying all you outdoor gardeners right now! Just want to report on the results I've had as a not-very-good-plant-person, with repotting my three gasping-for-life orchids. After all your good advice, I ordered an orchid bark potting mixture from Amazon and followed the directions I'd printed out from a friend's orchid book. At the same time, I also bought a set of six nice looking white plastic plant pots from Amazon, especially recommended for orchids, with their own separate inserts for self-watering. Now, about a month or so later, my orchids have perked up admirably and have new sprouts! I'm feeling much like a proud momma, looking smugly at the success my three babies are enjoying! Lol. Thankyou for all your help. Hugs, Laurie

@artist01 That’s impressive and pretty cool, Laurie! You might have a green thumb after all with your little orchids being ‘snatched from the jaws of death’ and now flourishing!l! ☺️
The only orchid I’ve ever had success with is a huge one my boss gave me when I retired...had it for 15 years. Of course, it’s artificial and sits on a table in my foyer. 😂😂

@loribmt 🤣 Lori! You made me laugh out loud with both of your statements! I love the idea that I've snatched my little orchids from the jaws of death. AND, you had me in awe of your gardening ability until you admitted that your fifteen-year-old orchid was artificial!! Made my day! Hugs, Laurie

@loribmt 😆 🤣 😂. That's not as bad as my three orchids during their worst period - I had to dust and WASH them because they were so neglected. At least you have the excuse that yours is a faux!! 😉 😘

That's cheating, Lori!!!!!! I do love the silk orchid plants, tho, but it;s still cheating. Only thing is, they bloom all year round, all the time no matter where you put them. That's a really good thing, My orchids I'm saving from the dumpster are pretty happy now that I've quit taking too good care of them. I water those little ladies 2X weekly, just a few sips of water. Then, just enjoy watching them grow and put out new roots.
My Vanda orchid has a new sprout and new bloom soon to open. I put it outside last year in the fall, hanging on a limb in my crepe myrtle tree on the patio, with all the feeders. It had a new bloom last winter, seems to love the locaiton, protected by the tree and the patio fence, so I'm leaving it there. I'm watering now every day, usually morning which is great.

I'll get a picture of it when it opens.

The two inside are on a table by the window and very happy. I need despterately to replant and pot in propper pot. Like you did. So, I think this week I'll get a couple of pots and go for it.

My Bird of Paradise, in a pot inside, by the patio doors, isn't very happy. It needs re-potting, too. Everything I have needs potting! But, meed to hire someone to help. Working on that....
I used to have so many indoor plants, but when I got ill a few years ago, some died, some got to the re0potting point and I couldn't so they died. Hate that.....think I caused the deaths, I did. My african violets aren't happy, and I do a lot of those for years. Think they need repotting too. It does take some little bit of work every year or so to keep them happy.

enjoy your newfound green thumb! elizabeth

please add this to your indoor garden, it's a photo I was lucky to snap from my outdoor garden for bumbleewatch.org. I checked their website just now, my photo is still out there! This sighting is a bombus griseocollis, a brown beltted bumblee.

Several years ago one of our daughters gave us an orchid. It seem to like our sunroom, and when we were planning a five week cross country RV trip we decided we didn’t want to leave it behind. So, Miss Olivia Orchid went with us. Everywhere we went we took a picture of her and sent it to our family. She had pictures taken in RV parks, national parks, state parks, on river banks, in deserts and snow, visiting other beautiful flowers, etc. What fun! And she came home none the worse for her travels!
