Bronchiestatis and tiredness

Posted by gaylesunflower1 @gaylesunflower1, Mar 21, 2021

Happy Sunday Everyone. I found that one of my triggers for sob is cold weather so other than the 3 days I go to work I stay home. Thank God for spring - finally able to leave house and go to church today. Trying to learn how to live a good life with this condition. One of my concerns is my tiredness. There are days when I don't feel tired at all then there are days when I am so tired. Does anyone else feel this way and what do you do to manage it. Thanks in advance for your comments

Now that Spring is arriving (at least in some parts of the country) is everyone anxious to get outdoors? I'm thinking of you, @ess77, @irene5, @gaylesunflower1, @windwalker, @thomason, @thumperguy, @toni1132...
Between bronchiectasis and pollen allergies, I'm not necessarily at my finest in this season, and fatigue tends to sneak up on me.

How do all of you handle that sudden "I'm done!" feeling when there is so much more you want/need to accomplish today? Short of dropping onto the couch for a snooze, what can Keep you going for a few more minutes or another hour?

Sue

Oh, my gosh ! I can't believe this is your question of the day! I just was thinking that VERY THING !!! I've got so much to do and all of a sudden, I'm so tired, I want to fall on the floor and go to sleep !!!! It's everything to keep my eyes open. You know, I always thought this is just my vegging time of day, but it's more than that. I literally want to fall on the floor and go to sleep! Is this what? Bronchiectisis? MAC???

Ho Toni - It's Fatigue - with a capital F!
I think it's the very bronchiectasis itself, and the fact that our lungs must work harder than a normal lung just to provide air.
For 3 days we prepared & closed our tiny house to come home, but have learned to pace ourselves - we used to try to do it in a day. Then 2 14 hour days on the road (over 12 hours each day of driving time.) Today I turned off the alarm and slept in but I still feel limp. In about 10 minutes, I will follow my own advice and take a 30 minute nap, so I have enough energy to unpack a bag or two - only the coolers and immediate needs have even been removed from the car - but I did check Connect, answer the emails from 5 days, and balance my checkbook.

I have learned that when I feel like this, taking a pause is the most effective thing - so I'll skip my walk and let the laundry sit until tomorrow.

Have you tried either a "power nap" (20-30 minutes) or a longer one on these days? Does it help?

Well, this is interesting. I figured it was just my "clock" and it was overworking. I have always crashed at 2:00pm. But, I've always plugged along and the tiredness passes. But now? I get exhausted about 11:00am and just whenever. I never thought about the Bronch. . I figured it was the MAC. ???? I've never been able to power nap. I always felt more tired after I slept. So I don't. ... Thank you for your insight, Sue !!! I need all the help I can get !!

I have always been a busy person and just lately have been experiencing the same thing! I have gotten so tired feeling when doing chores etc and was wondering if it is getting older? Now am thinking it is the bronchiectasis I have. Thanks for bringing a new light on the subject.

If I do housework or some yard work in the morning for a couple of hours, I am about done for the day! No more energy and some days I even need a nap. I had COVID in January for about a month and was pretty sick. Wish I knew what to do to get some energy back. I haven't had the vaccine yet because I have other medical conditions and can't get in to see my Dr until next month. Any suggestions? TIA

I have gone thru the same. My doc has me taking 2000-5000IU of B3 a day. Still tired but at least move around in a longer spurt than I had been. Good luck.

I too frequently have tiredness issues but it never occurred to me to related them to bronchiectasis. From what i written here in the 3 messages, I cannot tell if the tiredness symptom is necessarily related to bronchiectasis or something else. For the person who had Covid 19, it seems like that has to be seriously considered as the culprit.

Barb - maybe the dual assault on your body of Covid and bronchiectasis is the culprit?
Remember that our damaged lungs have to work harder just to breathe, so it makes sense that the fatigue might follow. In my case, I suspect I still have a low-level of MAC infection that my body and I are constantly battling, so any stress makes things worse and makes me more tired.

Sue - I never said here that I had Covid 19, I haven't - only the bronchiectasis. I have never thought of or been advised that the bronchiectasis could be a contributor to fatigue. I will take that up with my MD, probably the pulmonologist, more than my internist...Thanks for your thinking about it.

I believe my fatigue is related to my bronchiectasis. I usually need at least a 20-minute nap after doing the morning vest/saline routine plus Perforomist nebulizing plus breakfast. I am already tired. I need a longr 40-minute nap in the late afternoon. My 20-minute walk comes after that because, frankly, my lungs just cant handle it well without the nap first (and a couple of puffs on my broncho-dilator before I walk), I get too short-winded. I am taking D3, B12, and DHEA to help with the energy issue. My pulmonologist said that my last CT scan showed a worsening of the bronchiectasis. Well, as the old saying goes, you won't die because of it, but you will die with it. I am now n Costa Rica at 3500 ft in San Jose and the air is less oxygen rich than at sea level in California. We'll see how it goes.
