After effects of gastroscopy and colonoscopy

Posted by therjes @therjes, Jun 12, 2020

Hi friends
So I had a gastroscopy and colonoscopy both done Thursday morning. Once the profonol (sp?) Wore off I thought I'd feel ok like last time. Full disclosure, I've only done these separately before. So now its Friday night and my whole lower abdomen is still so sore! I just had a bit of bloating and gassiness last time, no pain like this. No bloating or gas left at all. Anyone have this reaction? How long does it last? I feel like my whole abdomen is "sprained". Haaalp!

@therjes You're not a baby at all! Many of us are uncomfortable after these procedures.

Hi, I have a colonscopy and endoscopy around 1 week ago. About a few days ago, I encountered some chest tightness on my upper body.. would like to know if this sympton is normal or is there any one encountered this issue?

Hi @jamespang83 and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I must urge you to seek medical attention right away and call your doctors office that performed the procedures. That is the number one warning sign to call your physician if you have chest tightness and pain after an endoscopy. It may just be a little discomfort, but please take care of yourself and don't wait to have them check it out.

Have you had any other symptoms besides chest discomfort?

Hello @jamespang83,

I would like to join Amanda, @amandaburnett in welcoming you to Connect. As I have personally had many EGDs as well as colonoscopies for a rare form of cancer, I would also join her in encouraging you to get medical treatment for this chest discomfort as soon as possible.

When these procedures are done there is a lot of air that is put into your digestive tract in order for the doctor to see the areas being examined. I have a concern though that these symptoms began several days after those procedures. While these symptoms may not represent a serious medical problem you definitely need to get it checked out to be sure there is not another serious issue.

Will you post again with an update as to how you are doing?
