Returning Home after total knee replacement (TKR)

Posted by 4russcoll @4russcoll, Apr 9, 2021

Scheduled for TKR 16 April. Haven’t had pre-op meeting yet but interested in advice regarding what to expect for first week home.

@4russcoll Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.

April 16th is very soon. It sounds like a good idea to prepare.

There are a lot of past discussions where members like @vicki1234 have @wa34937 @dmichael @buickturboman @peggyp @janicemmccarthy @katp discussed TKR. Did you scrolled through any of these?

May I ask what your provider has advised regarding post-op and if you will have a loved one taking care of you?

@4russcoll, I had TKR during second year of PMR when on 6 mgs prednisone. The hospital had a group of us to council before and just after. Remember to ice and elevate several times a day after exercises given you. Both legs were swollen for a few months, not to worry. YOU may have to up your pred after as I had a flare and not realizing it as such went to ER a couple of times. They didn't know either as most medical persons still don't know of PMR. Good luck.
