Tonsils? I had mine taken out long ago

There's a Mayo News item this week, regarding tonsilectomy. I had one in Kindergarten, but the idea to have one never came up when my kids were young. Have you had your tonsils out? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/champions/newsfeed-detail/?link_id=40508817

Any musicians out there? I had horrific ear pain as a teen playing the oboe. It was so bad, I gave up playing the instrument. Does anyone know the name for this musician's ear pain? I heard a name for it one time. It's so painful, like flying on a airplane and cannot pop your ears, pressure really builds.

@Erinmfs-Tonsil removal for kids was a procedure pushed onto parents a very long time ago. This was a very outdated way of thinking, and ENTs offered and performed these surgeries based on “society norms” at the time.
Exactly what the article says, tonsils are a part of your first line of defense. Overtime there was no real proof that tonsil removal was very helpful. The more this was realized the less it became something to recommend to parents. Children’s immune systems are in a development process as they grow, so it is beyond me why the answer would be to cut out part of their immune defense. There is always an underlying cause of why someone experiences tonsil issues. These are body parts and are there for a reason.

My children sure had their share of illnesses due to the day care center. With me at work, it was essential that they goto preschool, but for awhile, it felt like we were bathing each other in germs from that participation. It never occurred to me to have their tonsils out, just alot of amoxicillin. We used to fear overuse of the antibiotics back then.

Yep! Children’s immune systems develop as they grow. That’s why kids get so easily sick. It’s just part of the process. But as a society we have been conditioned to think it’s a huge health scare and kids are taken to a PCP and given antibiotics, which further don’t let their immune system naturally develop and only are effective for bacteria and not viruses.
As children healthy gut bacteria is developing. Over/wrongly prescribed antibiotics destroy the guts natural good bacteria. So children will often keep getting sick while they are trying to grow and fend off natural pathogens.
There is an older generation that was conditioned to trust anything someone in a white coat says. Natural remedies and over the counter products are best. Antibiotics should always be a very last resort. It’s taken a long time
for the the nasal side effects of antibiotics to actually be proven.
Hopefully people have learned by now.
