Protect Your Vaccine Record Card

I was just looking at my half-finished vaccination card. Next Sunday is my second vaccination. I can't wait. It's been well over a year that I've been out and about as most of us.

But hold on, what do I do with my card once I'm vaccinated? CNN has some wonderful tips.

First off make sure that all the information on the card is 100% accurate BEFORE you leave where you are getting vaccinated. (name, date of birth, and the date and location of the vaccine -- for accuracy. )

Secondly, take a photo of both sides on your phone, for the first vaccination (if possible) and then the second. Keep a copy on your phone and email a copy to yourself. Then photocopy it and keep at least one copy with your important documents.

Lost cards or very damaged ones need to be replaced. Contact the provider of your vaccinations if you need to replace yours. You might want to jot down the time and place of your vaccination in case you lose your card and need to replace it. Visit your health department immunization information system (IIS). My state has a COVID-19 Vaccine Portal through the State Department of Health.

Office Depot and Office Max and , I think Staples , will laminate your fax card for free. Amazon is already selling card holders ...paper and plastic. I put a copy on my phone and just filed my original away. I made copies of my SS and Ins card at home on a piece of laminated type photo paper ...cut them to size and put in my wallet. Originals just filed away.

@becsbuddy- A lot of people are laminating their cards. It seems a bit redundant if it's on your phone but if you plane on carrying it around it might be a good idea.

Of course you can laminate the card!

I have read that we should not laminate the vaccine record card because there might be need for a booster vaccine - and then it would have to be added.

I have read that we should not laminate the vaccine record card because there might be need for a booster vaccine - and then it would have to be added.

@rosemarya- I just saw a video about that. There are other blank dates that could be filled in for boosters. Thank you!

I think that there would be a problem with entering the information over the layer of laminating film. Does the video address this issue?

@becsbuddy, @merpreb, et al Does anyone know whom to contact at Mayo to get a card? I was vaccinated in Jan at Mayo and was so thrilled I may have put it some place safe.....lost forever! I need to laminate my SS card and a couple of other things. Office Depot does it and it's simple.

Do parents still have to present proof of vaccinations first day of school like we used to do? Hope so.....FYI: I just got an invitation from my college sorority alumnae group....hope to go to first 'party', breakfast at a home, since covid hit us. Fingers crossed!

@amandaburnett Thank you, Amanda. I found the immunization list. That's great to actually have on paper in file in case I need it. Is there any way to get an official Mayo/CDC card with just the Sars vaccine information on it? Like is given out at the shot site? I saw the one my son just got and wonder if a duplicate is available.
