Hemicranial continua

Posted by midgette @midgette, Nov 10, 2011

Hello.....I am new here. I was diagnosed last week with Hemicranial continua and put on Indocin which is suppose to be the medicine to take care of the problem. I have seen no relief. The pain is just as bad as before. I have a long history of headaches.I have learned to live with the pain because I have a high pain tolerance but this is different from my usual headaches and is really more than I can bear. This pain started a few months ago in my right eye....at first my MD thought it was Trigeminal Neurosa but after going to a neurologist, she said it was Hemicranial continua. I had an MRI which was ok.....only showed two ubo's but everything was normal. I have asked my doctor about a MRA but she didnt want to do one then. I am about at my wits end...where do I go from here? I had a heart attack a year ago and take weekly IV iron treatments for anemia. I am 64 years old, active but having a hard time living with these headaches. Does anyone else out there have the same or similar problems? I would appreciate replies from anyone. Thank you/

dear midgett, i'm so sorry that you are in such pain and the drug indocin isn't helping. im sorry to say i know nothing about your disease but perhaps getting checked at an opthalmologist's office wouldn't hurt. or have you already done that?

Hello.....actually I did go to an opthalmologist and he is the one who suggested the MRI. I had never heard of this either. Thank you so much for writing. It is nice to know someone cares. Have a great day.

I HAVE BEEN DOING THE ALEXANDER METHOD FOR 11 YRS. I SEE THE MAYO CLINIC HAS CLASSES IN IT. IT IS WONDERFUL TO BRING MY OXYGEN TO YOUR BRAIN. AS I'VE SAID IN MY LAST EMAIL, I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOUR DISEASE. PERHAPS YOU COULD ENLIGHTEN ME. THX.

HELLO....I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE ALEXANDER METHOD. MAYBE YOU COULD ENLIGHTEN ME. AS FAR AS MY HEADACHE PAIN, I AM NOT SURE THE MD DIAGNOSED ME CORRECTLY. THE MEDICINE IS NOT WORKING AT ALL. I DONT KNOW WHAT IS NEXT. THX

why did they give you that diagnosis? have you viewed the relevant mayo videos, i find them extremely honest, clear, and revealing in the sense that i come away with more knowledge about something i knew nothing of in the first place.

the alexander method is all about maximizing your oxygen through posture. from doing this, you gain extra muscle strength and much better focus, on matters of the mind and body. i've done yoga and a ton of sports but never have i benefitted more re muscle strength than with this technique. if you get brennan's book 'the alexander technique', and get yourself a good yoga mat, a big one, you can start with one chapter at a time while you watch the 6 o'clock news. by the time you finish the book, as to master each chapter it really takes a week, you will know it inside out and it becomes a part of you. each time that you do it, you get more flexible and more like that kid you were at 12. this is the whole goal, to regain your posture of 12 before all psychological hang-ups, etc.. got in the way. i even gave the book away to someone whom i felt could use it. then i picked up another on sale for 2.99 as it's reg l9.99 online. i ended up giving that as a present to someone with scoliosis and she said the book became her best friend. sorry i have no more on my shelf, or i'd send one your way. when you maximize oxygen, the destressing occurs and migraines, i hear disappear. i have never had a migraine, so i wouldn't know firsthand about that. good luck in confirming your diagnosis.

Thank you for the above info. It is very interesting. I have had headaches for 30 years but a few months ago, I started waking up early morning with a bad pain in my right eye. I always had a headache. Now my MD says I dont have the problem she diagnosed because if I had, the medicine she gave me would have stopped the pain. Now she doesnt know what the problem is but wants to keep prescribing different meds which I refuse to do. I also have a drooping right eye. Because my MRI was negative, she refuses to say that an MRA is necessary and I would have to pay myself. I have heart disease and also at high risk of a stroke and the reason I wanted a MRA was to rule out any problems with my blood vessels. I am at my wits end. She says OTC meds make headaches worse but nothing she prescribed for me worked. I am in a great deal of pain all of the time. She even admitted that my headaches and my heart condition could be related.

foods are very important, sometimes if an enzyme is not working properly or you're not utilizing a particular protein, this can cause all kinds of problems. my friend had a thyroid problem and manages it under the supervision of her dr. as well as a naturopath. the doctors actually acknowledge each other and work together very well to alleviate her problems. she also has gone on a blood diet. there are 4 types of blood and certain foods are recommended and some eliminated, she cannot eat chicken but she can eat fish, she can't drink milk, etc.......she feels much better but each person is so unique and needs to find their own diagnosis.

Hello......I just found out that my doctor says now that I dont have hemicranial continua because the meds she prescribed work for that condition. I had to change primary car physicians so I mentioned this to him and he has scheduled a MRA tomorrow. This shows some things that a MRI doesnt. I sure hope they find what the cause is. I do agree with you on the foods. There are certain foods I cannot eat.How are you?
