Newly diagnosed with borderline personality disorder

borderline personality disorder-- I am interested in communicating with anyone who shares the challenge of this disorder. I am newly diagnosed after a lifetime of symptoms

I don't share your disorder, however, I was once in a long term relationship (over 13 years) with someone with this personality disorder. I was given a book to read by a professional who told me if I read the book, I would probably understand the disorder better. I was seeking help for the abuse I suffered as a result of living with this person during their midlife crisis and subsequent downward spiral. I don't recall the author's name but if i remember correctly, the book was entitled "I Hate You, Don't Leave Me". Unfortunately, due to domestic violence I had no other choice than to leave the relationship permanently.

I am still in touch with this person and they have since gone through some professional counseling. I believe the therapy they received was very helpful and that they are successfully managing another relationship. Unfortunately, due to the past I must have limited contact with this person because they did not complete enough therapy (or make enough changes) for me to ever trust them again. this does not have to be your plight in life. If you think that you've destroyed a relationship in error (as most borderlines do frequently) there is hope. Just the fact that you have been diagnosed and are seeking help is awesome! Maybe you can work through therapy and salvage any relationships that were important to you.

I know you might feel alone because you probably push people away from you. This is a pretty safe place to communicate with others and hopefully, someone with the disorder will come along for you soon.

Hi Archangel, a friend was going to therapy and in the process of discussing me was told by his therapist that she believed I have BPD and since then I have been looking into it. When I looked at the symptoms, I definitely saw myself. I hope to be able to get diagnosed in the near future and get the help I need. I believe I have been spared a lot of problems because of my strong Christian beliefs. The pain that causes the issues is there though. I have had problems and the suicidal thoughts really plague me at times. Again, my beliefs keep me safe. You aren't alone and that is why I joined this site to find someone who would understand being tortured by your own brain. I feel so alone in my mental suffering.

Definately find a professional therapist to talk to. Also I found two support groups on Facebook which have been a life saver for me. Also in the time being you can find out online for free if you have BPD symptoms. Is a questionnaire and when your done it lets you know.

Thanks so much for the information. I'll check those things out. It will be nice not to feel so isolated in my misery!
