Osteoarthritis in fingers and knee replacement needed

Posted by Mombo83 @mombo83, Sep 14, 2011

Due to recommendation by Mayo physician I increased fish oil from 2000 mg to 3000 mg per day. We are amazed at the results. No joint pain nor stiffness in hands or knee. Incredible results from this simple remedy.

That's awesome. Does this mean you're not having the knee replacement?

Thanks for the info. I believe I have visited that web site on a prior occasion. It is my understanding that cod liver oil has more vitamin D in it than other fish oils. That is why I am using it rather than fish oil. Also, cod liver oil has vitamin A and vitamin D in it. It is not recommended to take too much vitamin A, so I found a Norweigan cod liver oil that has a good combination of the two that meets recommended daily dose.

Taking Vitamin D3 supplements and fish oil might cover all the bases for you, no worries about the Vitamin A perhaps.

I have researched Vitamin D3 supplements also. Synthetic Vitamin D3 is produced with the wool of sheep. For those of us who have ever had itching skin or breakouts on skin because of wearing wool clothing, I don't think I would care to consider the synthetic. I have found that Shitake Mushrooms are an option. There are vegan supplements of shitake mushrooms if one doesn't care to buy them and cook them. Also, there are some whole food vitamin companies that produce "food" Vitamin D3. One of the best companies out there for whole food supplements is Mega Foods. A bit pricey for some folks, but they are awesome. I've taken several different kinds, one daily, cal/mag/ zinc/ vitamin C, etc. etc.
I do agree with you that the two together would cover all of the bases. I do watch my intake of Vitamin A, however, so I would have to find a good combination of the two.

The ingredient in the Vitamin D3 supplements is actually lanolin that is expressed from the wool of sheep. Lanolin is what makes for beautiful skin as it protects by acting as a moisture barrier. Other Vitamin D3 supplements are made with fish oil. I am allergic to wool although have never experienced any ill effects from the daily 3,000 IU's of Vitamin D3 softgel supplements I take.
