pervasiveness of depression

I am new to this site. i have a myriad of health issues that have begun to jeopardize my career. After being seen at Mayo just two weeks ago, I am beginning to see that my depression may be at the root of all of my health issues. This would seem to be good news, since by addressing the depression I would be addressing the immediate problem, but I have to say that the thought of addressing some of the emotional issues is extremely daunting. I guess I am afraid.

I'm new with this too but thought it would be time to start speaking up. i have had depression for quite awhile now, don't know why casue my life has been pretty good. It seems to have started 7 years ago when my whole family past away within 2 years and I was very close to them. In the past 2-3 months things seem to be getting worse my doctor thinks it may be bipolar but doesn't want to label me as that yet. She's been working on my meds see if that works. I know how you feel about being afraid sometimes it just seems much easier to put things off instesd of taking them out & really taking a good look. I think that has been my problem too. Keeping a journal seems to help,I just started that. Don't be afraid always know there are others out here who understand.

Thanks for your response, tash. Sorry for your losses. I think losing your whole family definitely qualifies for the ground work for depression. Is your doctor a psychiatrist?

I lost my mom in 2008 She was the only family I had left except for an aunt and some cousins that want nothing to do with me. My depression has been the worse since then. I have had severe depresson and ocd most of my life but when my mom died who I was so close to I have never really recovered.

I am currently an active duty member of our great country armed forces. I was diagnose with depression a year ago. Like you depression has affected my work amd every aspect of my life. I committed a unsucceddful suicide. After seing a phyciatric and going to alot of outpatient appointment and learning about my problems. I began to takle my reasons for depression. Like you I was afraid. But there is no greater feeling in the world than facing your problems head on and conquering it. My advice for you is to establish a good support group. That help me out alot.

Yes, of course,I completely understand! like you, I have several diagnoses, major depression being one of the front runners. It's scary to face your demons when you aren't depressed, but when you truly are, you certainly don't want to do much of anything. I admire the fact that you can hold down a job. I spend most of my day in my bedroom, staring into space. I may appear peaceful, but my thoughts are bouncing off the wall.
