question about Menieres Disease

Posted by STYERS @styers, Aug 23, 2011

I have dizziness that last for days with vomiting, hearing loss in one ear and ringing in that ear. My doctor has diagnoised me with menears and run a MRI. The MRI show everything is normal with my ear. I don't see how everything can be normal when half of my hearing is gone in that ear, it has constant ringing and I can not even move my head some days without vomiting. Has anyone had these systems and the doctor not be able to find out what is wrong?

I've had two MRI's in the last eight months, along with many other tests trying to figure out the cause of my dizziness/balance problem, but like you, they come back as normal. You would think an MRI would show something wrong with the inner ear when it comes to this issue since the inner ear controls these functions. So far taking Ativan takes the edge off the dizziness for a while since it suppresses the vestibular system.
I'm trying to get into Mayo Clinic to have this figured out, but so far they have been reviewing the tests I've already had this last year, and haven't called back with an appointment date. Good luck to you, being dizzy is terrible.

Hi,

I have dizziness issues and tinitis and like Chester, I take ativan to take the edge off. But it's only a temporary relief. It doesn't touch the headache, but relief from the diziness is welcome. It also helps with nausea.

My symptoms are caused by a Pineal Cyst, although much of the literature I've read says that PC's don't cause symptoms. Supposedly theyr are benign and are just "There". I say that the area in our heads is prime real estate and anything extra in there can cause symptoms.

Incidently, I had an MRI back in march for my ears. They caught just a shadow of the cyst by chance. Another more focused MRI in June found a very pronounced cyst.

Hi, I was diagnosed with Menieres Disease 11 years ago and my left ear has been ringing since then. I have not had one second of a day where my ear did not ring. I do have a big hearing loss in that ear also. I know what you mean about the dizziness, I had that for several years (its vertigo). There is nothing you can do about the ringing but the migraines, vomiting, and diarrhea can be managed by trying to avoid salt. There is salt in everything you eat so try (and it is so hard), try to have no more than 1,000 mg salt per day.

Thanks for responding. I have had the dizziness constantly unless I take Dramamine 2. I can not move my head 2 inch without vomiting horribly unless I do take the Dramamine. I have an appointment with two different specialist, but it takes a while to get in. I have gone to a naturalpathic doctor that has a college degree in natural medicine. He got me in right away. He does muscle testing and it is very acuate. (He cleared my mom of cancer.) He tested and said that the fluid in my ear is not draining properly and the my estationary tube had calcium deposits that was part of the drainage problem and that the fluid in my ear is not a healthy fluid. He gave me a couple of things, but told me not to stop taking the Dramamine for a least a week to give the problem time to correct. I think I will wait a little longer than that, because as you said, being dizzy is terrible. I have to lay still, no TV and reading. I just lay there or I'm vomiting horribly. I wish you the best. I will let you know how it turns out on this end and hope you will do the same.

I sorry I answered to the wrong reply. I have the ring also, it has been 4 years. But the veritgo use to come and go away, it has now stayed for 2 months. I am on Dramamine 2 everyday to function. As I said earlier, I have gone to a Naturalpathic doctor and I hope it helps. The specialist I am going to see, wants to do another motion test and I have to be off of Dramamine for 2 days before the test. I what the Natualpathic doctor gave me does not work by then, I don't even know how I will get there. I wish you the best!
