Hello “jsharon”. I don’t have any suggestions for you but I wanted to extend my sincere wish that you find some answers to your questions and relief from your symptoms. Were you referred to a neurologist by your primary care doctor? Have you tried to come to Mayo Clinic as a patient? I have chronic pain from “failed back surgery syndrome” and am in serious pain every day. I also have MS and am pretty certain that part of the pain is MS related. I think what’s most frustrating is not getting answers to what’s causing one’s symptoms. Our minds want explanations so we can respond in kind. I hope that you get the answers you need so whatever the cause, it’s not a mystery any longer.

It’s funny though – finding an answer can be a mixed bag. I went for years without a diagnosis, and it wasn’t until I went through Mayo’s PRC that I learned to accept my pain and to stop looking for that answer, which shift in perspective helped me a great deal. And then I found an answer, just a few days ago, or at least the beginnings of a diagnosis, and I have to say that I am extremely ambivalent about it for a number of reasons. As Freud said, “Insight is not cure.”
