Where do I go? Burning back, leg pain, yeast in throat, full quickly

Posted by jsharon @jsharon, Jul 28, 2011

My lower back feels like I'm sitting on a 3 day old, bad sunburn. This has gone on for a long time, but now, my left leg feels like it's been hit and is very bruised in 3 places. It has not! There are no bruises, etc. Has anyone out there experienced this and found where to go??? My neurologist did a brain scan and it showed nothing remarkable. I do not have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, or allergies. This started when I was given a false diagnosis for Lyme Disease in May of 2010 and was put on Doxycycline for 2 months. Everything became "inflamed" and I went through a long period of antibiotics (for bladder, stomach, etc). They finally saw that my throat was lined with yeast and had me stop all antibiotics. Nothing has been right since. I can't sleep, 2 or 3 mouthfuls of food and I feel stuffed, and I'm in this unusual pain. I don't know if this is something new, or if it's related to the Lyme mess. Does anything sound familiar to anyone?

Has your neurologist done a MRI on your back? The lower one to more precise. I woke up last July and was unable to move. I finally saw a neurologist in September who order that. I had pain that went all the way to my heels (i still have the pain but its now more manageable). He found out that the two lower discs are disintegrating (arthritis). The pain was sudden and is now being treated.

Hi! I had what was called a "motion x-ray" which was kind of like a video of my spine, both cervical and lumbar. This was done by a pain specialist who gave me two sets of shots .... none of them helped. Thanks for the response ..... hope your treatment is working well for you.

They have me on Gabapentin Cyclobenzaprine and Tramadol. I was on Hydrocodone but because I had been on it for a year i was removed. I did the shots as well, they worked for maybe 2 visits and that was it. I hope you find some relief soon.

Back at you
BTW Gabapentin seemed like a wonder drug at first, but then it's like the body caught on and said "okay.... let's not pay attention to that anymore". Hope they'll find something for you that will replace the Hydrocodone. Take care Yin73.

have you ever been checked for shingles? I know that most shingles show right up on your skin.. but sometimes you can't see it... its weird like that..
the throat lined with yeast is what really triggered this response...
sounds like what happened to myaunt

Hello "jsharon". I don't have any suggestions for you but I wanted to extend my sincere wish that you find some answers to your questions and relief from your symptoms. Were you referred to a neurologist by your primary care doctor? Have you tried to come to Mayo Clinic as a patient? I have chronic pain from "failed back surgery syndrome" and am in serious pain every day. I also have MS and am pretty certain that part of the pain is MS related. I think what's most frustrating is not getting answers to what's causing one's symptoms. Our minds want explanations so we can respond in kind. I hope that you get the answers you need so whatever the cause, it's not a mystery any longer.

It's funny though - finding an answer can be a mixed bag. I went for years without a diagnosis, and it wasn't until I went through Mayo's PRC that I learned to accept my pain and to stop looking for that answer, which shift in perspective helped me a great deal. And then I found an answer, just a few days ago, or at least the beginnings of a diagnosis, and I have to say that I am extremely ambivalent about it for a number of reasons. As Freud said, "Insight is not cure."
