Wake up with dry throat at night. Suggestions?

Posted by nazleer @nazleer, Jan 18, 2021

I wake up in the morning around 5:30 with a dry throat. I take a dry mouth lozenge and drink lots of water but I can't go back to sleep. Any suggestions?

You can use Xylimelts, recommended by my sleep doc.Missed one night - in 2 years - and had a dry throat that night.

I use Biotene Dry Mouth Moisturizing Spray and it really works for me. I have Sjogren's disease and my mouth is so dry at times that I have awakened to my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth. I spray and it gets better. I also spray before I swallow pills. It's over the counter. My dentist has told me to use Biotene tooth paste because it doesn't have the "drying " ingredient that other toothpastes have. I hope this helps.

@nazleer You wake up in the middle of the night with a dry throat and then you cannot go back to sleep. You are looking to connect with members like @tim1028 @jal333 @johnbishop @lolaemma that have discussed a similar topic and receive suggestions.

You will notice I added this discussion to the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) group. I did this so you could expand your reach with members and hopefully have a better chance of having your question answered.

May I ask if you have any diagnosed sleep issues like sleep apnea or other medical issues? Have you had a recent sleep study?

@nazleer I like others have mentioned use Biotene mouth wash before going to bed and it does seem to help me with my mouth breathing and using a CPAP when sleeping.

Thank you for your reply. I have not been diagnosed with sleep apnea. I take a number of medications for my diabetes.
