New type mouthpiece for Albuterol

Posted by auntnanny @auntnanny, Oct 13, 2019

I just learned a couple of days ago that there is a new quicker way to deliver albuterol and saline that I knew about. Perhaps most of you know and if so, I'd like to have your input on what you think of it. It's called Phllips InnoSpire Go...… brochure says it delivers all the albuterol in 4 minutes and it's not connected to the usual-type nebulizer. It's just a small piece (battery operated) that you pour the saline in and turn it on. Put it in your mouth and breathe normally and it should be over in 4 minutes. I believe the cost is 200-225. It says you need a prescription to acquire one. Does anyone know anything about this? I found it quite interesting. Wish it would work on tobramycin too. I also thought with a prescription perhaps Medicare would cover all or part of the cost. I have emailed pulmonologist at Mayo's to ask about this but he's out of town for several days.

Hi @auntnanny that's a very interesting bit of informaiton you are sharing.

@margiebanks @rits and @jasmine321 all have mentioned using albuterol in the past and may be interested in this mouthpiece you are describing, or may be able to share their experience with it.

Back to you @auntnanny have you tried this mouthpiece since you posted? Have you heard back from your pulmonologist at Mayo about it?

ethan mcconkey I have not heard from Mayo's concerning the mouthpiece -- so I can't add anything yet. I'll mention it again in a note to him. It sounds good to me. Let me know if you learn anything more

@ethanmcconkey i have not heard of this mouthpiece but am interested, I like the idea of faster delivery, and battery operated (travel) Will be checking it out. For now, I would just use it for saline, I couldn't tolerate the nebbed Albuteral, made my heart race. Thanks for bringing it up!

My daughter who has bronchiectasis and asthma uses one, but has not had amikacin or tobramycin. She likes the speed and small size, but says it doesn't always completely dispense all the med solution.

Thank you for that post, sueinmn

Be sure you are considering the amount of medication you are going to nebulize. When I checked, the time projected was short because the amount of liquid medication was half of what I use!

@auntnanny I am just a few weeks past finishing 13 months on 3 antibiotics for MAC and am now concentrating on treating the residual bronchiectasis and trying not to have the MAC rear its ugly head again. My pulmonologist has prescribed nebulizer treatments with albuterol and 3% saline followed by using the flutter device twice a day. So, I'm debating whch nebulizer to get. Did you ever find out anything else about the InnoSpire Go? Any other advice anyone? Thanks! Martha

@margiebanks Ask your dr about prescribing levalbuterol. It's albuterol without the shakes or heart racing.
