He gave me Trazodone 50 mg and up citalopram to 20mg. Didn’t work increased Trazodone to 100mg no luck. Then we tried Doxepine 10 mg with the Citalopram. Still not helping increased the Dozepine ton25mg. I usually take 5 to 10 mg of melatonin with it. I’m done! Ok 10 pounds later, bags under eyes, constipation. Any suggestions.

Hello @frehley

I see that this is your first post on Connect, welcome!

I am sorry to hear that you have sleep problems. It is so difficult to function during the day when you have not slept well at night.

It sounds like your doctor has tried some of the typical meds for sleep issues. The Trazodone worked for me for several years. I am not familiar with Doxepine, though. Do you have other problems such as restless legs, cramping, etc.? You do not mention how long you have had a sleep problem, nor do you mention any other health problems. There are other health problems (and meds) that can affect sleep.

You have probably consulted with a sleep specialist and had a sleep study done. If so, did you get any answers as to the origin of your sleep problem? A sleep study can diagnose sleep apnea (which you may not be aware that you have).

I would encourage you to read the discussions on Connect regarding sleep problems. Here is the link, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/sleep-health/. I was having the same problem as well with sleep the doctor prescribed me several different medications since I was not able to sleep for 5 days due to severe back pain and anxiety. I was prescribe noratriptaline , temazepam and Cymbalta. I was getting sleep but when I got back from the hospital i wasn't getting as much sleep so they increased the noratriptaline and I took 10 mg of melatonin at night. It might be the melatonin. It is suggested not to take it with other anti depressants. Ever since I have not been taking it I am able to sleep with the medications. AS well 10mg is a high dose. 3mg might be better . Just a suggestion. Some patient also have success with ambian. I have never tried it but it might help.
