CT scan and metformin

Posted by cowen150 @cowen150, Aug 18, 2016

I've had CT scans before, and know to hold metformin 48 hours afterward. BUT....yesterday my scan was at 10:15 AM, and I popped the metformin in my mouth around 7 PM. I didn't even realize what I had done until nearly midnight. I've been drinking water and decaf. tea like crazy. I figure I'm not going to die, but is there anything else I should be doing? Needless to say, NO metformin tonight! Thank you for your help!

Thank you! I had called my PCP, and was finally called back. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else, but if so, my doc said to overload on fluids, especially water. So I guess my instincts about that were right! I appreciate your concern; sometimes just knowing that somebody cares is a very encouraging and peace-giving thing! Blessings to you!

Cowen, What a fright that must have been until your PCP called back. Thank goodness your instincts were correct.
Thank you for returning to post what your doctor told you. This is great information to have on Connect should this happen to anyone else.

May I ask what the CT scan was for? We look forward to getting to know more about you.
