Stomach pain

Posted by susan1974 @susan1974, Jan 2, 2020

It all started with a tiny pain in my stomach area, ignored it for two months than grew a little concerned, went to Dr had a CT scan w/o contrast, everything seemed fine. Went about my life made some changes to diet with no change. 1 month after CT i was mowing grass and hit a bump and it gave me a horrible pain in the mid right side abdominal area, the next day it was difficult to walk without guarding my stomach, pain would incapacitate me at time, went back to Dr, order colonoscopy that came back fine, endoscopic came back fine, meanwhile I’ve lost 20 LBS within 4 months, this condition also brought out rosacea on my face, something I’ve never had before all of this. Was treated for SIBO but i think i was mistreated due to not given the right antibiotics for the SIBO with high methane. My GI Dr looks at me like I’m crazy I’m losing about 1/2 LB a week while still consuming over 1000 calories daily. Second CT scan done with contrast showed a list of potential stuff, but once again GI DR wasn’t impressed with the scan and still doesn’t know what’s wrong. 🤷‍♀️ Sorry this was so long.

Hi @nikkicxncel, I too would like to welcome you to Mayo Clinic Connect. You mentioned having the stomach flu before and it feeling different than it does now. Did your doctor order any tests to assess your situation? If you are having diarrhea or a fever associated with your severe pain and loss of appetite, you should request a stool test to rule out C.diff or other infections. Nikki, when did the pain start?

They did blood work on me at the ER and said medically I was fine. I don’t think I have a fever and they know I’ve said I’ve never felt like this before. The doctor just told me if this medicine doesn’t help me eat I should go to the ER again to get hydrated.

@nikkicxncel When you write about "stomach," where is that, (near the bottom of your rib cage or is the pain in your lower intestinal area)? Is the pain in the center of your body or to the right or left side? ... If you are dehydrated, have you tried drinking Pedialyte (an electrolyte solution with more minerals than water).. Sports drinks have more minerals than water too, but Pedialyte or Drug Store Electrolyte Solution can help a lot to get you hydration back where it belongs...

I would say center of stomach, probably belly button. And I’ve drank some pedialyte but not that much. I’m drinking about 16.9 FL a day, pretty much a water bottle a day. I don’t know if that’s enough but that’s all I can currently do. I have finally ate, I ate two toasted bread and I kept it down. I do still feel nauseous but I’m yet to throw up. Had diarrhea for a total of probably 2 days. Haven’t had diarrhea yet so hopefully it stays that way. My doctor says it’s really hard to become dehydrated since I’m 17. I’ve probably lost about 4-5 lbs in 4-5 days. Hopefully I get over this soon and get back to normal. I’m also having hot sweats when I wake up but no fever.

And it’s not exactly pain in my stomach, I’d probably describe it as a soreness or aching, discomfort? I don’t know but it’s not like sharp pains, only when my stomach grumbles and you get mild pain due to the grumbling.

I had really bad stomach pain, can’t eat couldn’t drink so I went to the ER they ran tests on me and said I was medically fine. But I was very dehydrated. They gave me a iv and anti nausea. Today I can’t eat still, I can drink a little and I made a doctors appointment on zoom. The doctor said I most likely have a stomach infection. I feel like it’s not that because I’ve had the stomach flu and it never felt like this. I’m in constant pain my stomach aches and I get waves of intense nausea and discomfort. I’m only 17 and I’m very scared. Please give me advice.

@nikkicxncel lie down, press firmly down into the lower right side of your stomach (just above your right groin) with the four fingers of your right hand and let go quickly. If that hurts it’s a sign you could have appendicitis. Go back to ER and tell them to check you for appendicitis! If they they insist there is nothing wrong, go to another ER and insist on checking you for appendicitis! If the second ER doctor still can’t find anything wrong with you, ask him/her to get you an appointment with a gastroenterologist (GI) as soon as possible.

Do you live with your parents, or are they living near you? Could you get one of them to go with you and talk to the ER doctor?

@nikkicxncel There is a white cell blood test ... when the appendix starts leaking that's real trouble.. an Ultrasound of that area is easy for the ER to do..

@nikkicxncel I agree with @ken82 - insist on that white cell blood count and the ultrasound.
