Bronchiestatis and tiredness

Happy Sunday Everyone. I found that one of my triggers for sob is cold weather so other than the 3 days I go to work I stay home. Thank God for spring - finally able to leave house and go to church today. Trying to learn how to live a good life with this condition. One of my concerns is my tiredness. There are days when I don't feel tired at all then there are days when I am so tired. Does anyone else feel this way and what do you do to manage it. Thanks in advance for your comments

@gaylesunflower1 Yes, being tired one day and ok another is discouraging. I think our bodies fight very hard metabolically to have that one good energy day and then have to “regroup” so we can have another. I am grateful for those good days, but do get frustrated when I’m back on the couch. irene5

Absolutely, I have those days. I find that getting overtired triggers the fatigue for days afterward, so I am pretty good about taking a mid-day rest, or even a nap, BEFORE I get that distressing fatigue. I know I did too much yesterday & today, so tomorrow I shall turn off the alarm clock, schedule little work, and probably take an afternoon nap.
I also find that doing deep diaphragmatic breathing (aka "belly breathing") often throughout the day helps ward off fatigue - I guess by getting more oxygen into the body.

PS I found out (again) this winter that wearing a mask in cold air prevents a lot of my shortness of breath - of course I knew this 25 years ago when my kids were competitive skiers and we spent many hours out in the cold - I just forgot!

I also raised a bunch of ski racers. In fact, I used to get my cough going every November when I'd hike up a mountain early morning about 10,000 ft, boot packing, to reach the finish line of the opening Noram slalom races at Loveland Pass, COLO , -- high altitude, especially since we came from coastal, maritime environment -- i..e. zero altitude, all of which would freeze my lungs and trigger my Mac cough. For many years it lasted about 6 months, then it started staying all year, which, accompanied by nodules on CT scans, is what prompted me to get testing that disclosed MAC. Where were your kids racing? Mine ended up racing all over.

@gaylesunflower1... I spend an hour or two of every day postural draining the mucus. If I'm tired, I fall asleep for 20 minutes or an hour. I listen to books on tape and that makes the coughing time tolerable. Getting work done in the mornings allows me to rest without guilt in the afternoons and evenings. I think of resting as healing time. We all need healing time.

Oh, I could never have done that at altitude, even in my younger days. The last time we traveled, I couldn't even handle Yellowstone's altitude very well.

We were all Nordic skiers, with a little downhill for extra fun - I gave it up after bilateral hip replacement because I fall down a lot by out skiing my skill, and became afraid I would break something. My girls were competitive Nordic skiers in Minnesota, and never pursued it after high school, because the cold was too taxing on their asthmatic lungs. We are now casual outdoor players in the cold - a little hiking, sledding & skating - my daughter & her husband also snowshoe and are getting ready to introduce their young sons to it.

Between bronchiectasis and pollen allergies, I'm not necessarily at my finest in this season, and fatigue tends to sneak up on me.

How do all of you handle that sudden "I'm done!" feeling when there is so much more you want/need to accomplish today? Short of dropping onto the couch for a snooze, what can Keep you going for a few more minutes or another hour?

@sueinmn Hello, Sue and Happy Spring! I love this time of year as I have such a love of God's gifts of Nature....so much fun to see the leaves come out lighter green, get my flowers and plants and enjoy the newness of life. Seems especially now, with our covid depressions and fears and losses......we have new growth, positive and newness all around now.

It is hard to find energy, the breaths are shallower and fewer. My energy is ok at first, then I'm not just tired, but I hurt more and feel pretty yucky all over. Suddenly want to just drop! Yucky is a good word. Weakness hits, balance is affected. It's always a surprise for some reason, have to figure it out and then.....

I don't normally discuss this with anyone, so feels a bit strange, Sue. I just....finally...realize what's happening and why, suck it up and slow down my insides, my expectations. I do whatever I do in short or shorter, slow 'spurts'.....but try to move around for less time. I do all my body allows. No more. Some days, my kitty has a dirty litter box for a day, instead of cleaning every morning! She survives! Fusses, but survives. Then, tomorrow it's cleaned.

I've found one secret to enjoying my life, as it is, and accepting it as it is, is taking it easy. I push still, but certainly not like before. Always pushing to do more, finish. No more. I do what's comfortable, but do it. Then, stop for a rest. I actually listen to this body and follow it's lead. Amazing what an improvement that is. I'm still working on not feeling guilty. Wish me luck!

...but, oh, I miss the action! I have neighbor kids helping me this week potting, planting. I'm resting more. Suggestions..
