Uterine clear-cell carcinoma, chemo treatment unknowns

Posted by vika @vika, Mar 20, 2021

Hi there! My mum has been diagnosed with Carcinoma of uterine body pT3bN1aM1 (Metastases of clear cell carcinoma in one of the ovaries, uterine tube, the greater omentum, lymph nodes). On 1st of March she had surgery: radical hysterectomy, lymph node dissection along the iliac blood vessels, omentectomy (Kyiv, Ukraine). She was discharged from the hospital and recommended chemotherapy. In different clinics in Kyiv we were offered 4 or 6 rounds of Carboplatin + Paclitaxel. Is it a right (internationally proved) schema?

One complication for choosing treatment is deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in her legs. In one clinic we were told to wait 2 weeks taking Rivaroxaban 20 mg until starting the chemo. In another clinic, we were told to start chemo next week because it’s dangerous to wait in the long term. I’m very concerned about different suggestions, considering and thinking about the long term and short term risks...
I'll really appreciate it if you could share any useful info/share your experience... Thanks!!

I had my practice radiation today and start tomorrow. Planned for 25 tx plus 2 brachy to the vaginal cuff. Ready for the next step and closer to being healed.

@ejohn, just a quick note to say I'm thinking about you today as you start radiation for real. When do you get the brachy treatment?

@ejohn thanks a lot for sharing this! My mum started her chemo this week, after 4w after the surgery.

Thanks for sharing this. I just had my fourth round o carboplatin and taxol. More tired and sores in mouth started. I was wondering what to expect

How is it going Miriam? Sorry to hear about the sores. I did not have that. But I did rinse with salt water and baking soda daily. I just had a few rough days, with fatigue and joint pain. My 6th treatment I had some nausea along with the fatigue. How many rounds are you having? Eileen

The rinse was the key. I had stopped and that was the error. Started back and the sores were gone in about 9 days. I will stay on it now. Just had my 5th round. I will have another round on April 27, they want me to stay and do the scan right after chemo.
On May 3rd I will find out what is next.
Just some muscle and joint pain. Hanging in there.
Thankyou for asking

Hi Eileen, thank you! She had a first round of carboplatin and taxol 14 days ago. Sometimes she has bad joint/bone pain which seems manageable by drugs but I feel so stressed when she waits until it's v painful... I wanted to ask how did chemo affect your blood test results? Just received her results, and worried that haemoglobin dropped significantly over the last week.

Hello Vika! I do hope your mother is feeling better soon. I will say that the bone pain actually decreased over time with the chemo. It was the worst in the first couple treatments. It is like your body is in shock. I took ibuprofen and or tylenol and tried epsom salt baths. My blood work overall was ok but I wound up with decreased platelets that did delay my treatment twice. I was very discouraged but apparently it is common. They can't do anything about platelets but wait. I do think with hemoglobin they may be able to address with medications. I hope you have a nurse or way to ask the doctor. I am sure it is so helpful to have you supporting your mother so closely. hope things are going okay. Eileen

I just saw this. Thank you Colleen and Vika for the encouragement. I am already halfway thru! It was a little rough the first week or so, but better now. Lots of difficulty getting an empty bowel and full bladder. but better now and heading to the finish line. I am pretty fatigued. and will have the brachy as my last 2 treatments.
