Type 2 diabetes what can I eat? I like green apples.

In 1953 my professor said apples didn't have good nutrition and they were a waste to eat. Now the experts say apples are good for you because they provide fiber and good carbs, however some apples are sweeter than others. Green apples make excellent baked pies but the pies can be not so good for you.
The important thing is balanced nutrients so apples for a snack could make a sugar spike if there is no protein to go with them. I love apple salad because I add nuts, celery, grapes, and other ingredients to the apples. It is very filling. A plain apple would only make me hungry. If you avoid the high carb and high sugar foods, you can eat about any nutritious foods in combination. Go to the produce department and try a new food every week. Enjoy. Dorisena

Oh thank you my snack with apples are natural peanutbutter

REPLY

Yes, natural peanut butter is good for a snack and the fat helps slow down the sugar rise, if any. My granddaughters have always eaten lots of peanut butter and were successful in gymnastics in their childhood. I have eaten a couple of peanut butter cookies this week without any rising blood sugar in the morning, but I eat them with my main meal, not as a snack. I find i need the high fiber diet even more as I age. I don't drink enough water, I think. Dorisena

Attention to detail. 1. Know your numbers and 2. Be an active self manger. I enjoy food and I am looking forward to getting more information too. A good number of the foods that I eat contain only several grams of sugar. The beverages I like are chai tea; almond milk; coconut milk; and a nutritious protein shake with very low sugar. I have the protein shake twice a day with meals. My go to snack is a fairly new product from General Mills. I believe General Mills won the yogurt taste competition with it's new brand :ratio yogurt (vanilla is yum.) Also, I like Breyer's Smart Carbs chocolate covered almond ice cream bars. Daily RDA. Also, it's good to make it to the free Zoom classes offered by local hospitals for diabetes patient education. Enjoy your food.

I like those ice cream bars, too, but the store is out of them right now. It is difficult to find nut bars with 15 grams of sugar. Most of them are at least we grams, but I carry one in my purse. Dorisena

@dorisena @hadit17 You two enticed me to go to my shopping list in the store I am purchasing most of my groceries (curbside pickup) and they are out of them too! I will keep looking though. My husband always has a supply of Haagan Daaz bars in the freezer, along a gallon of chocolate ice cream. It would be nice if I could have something too!

I have a wonderful recipe for homemade ice cream that I make once in the summer and enjoy it, and I am able to use Truvia for sweetener and lots of vanilla. However, I also use sweetened condensed milk and it will cause a big spike even though I use heavy cream as well. I wish I could stop at just a small dish, but that is impossible so then I must exercise hard and curtail my diet for a day or two. I grew up with dairy farmers as neighbors so we could get heavy cream just by asking or trading something from our garden. My mother grew strawberries for a few years. These days it is difficult to get the cream because farmers have Holstein dairy cows for their high production and their bulk tanks have a stir mechanism in them which keeps the cream from separating so the farmer can't skim thick cream off the tank. We had our own cow during WWII. My mother made a cooked custard ice cream recipe. Wow! Dorisena

Hi JK, I love ice cream too. I find H. Daaz sweeter than Baskin R. , the peanut butter choc is not too sweet 😊
