Achilles surgery

Posted by debbielilly70 @debbielilly70, Jan 16, 2021

Please help. I had Achilles rupture repair on Jan 4th. Fell and injured it on the 8th went and saw doctor on the 11th. MRI is 22ed. Since the 9th I have had calf spasms. First they were very few then every few hours. Went to ER on the 13 and All tests back normal (bloodwork and DVT) was giving Baclofen to help with the spasms and pain meds. I do t take the pain meds...it does not help. The Beclofen has slowed down the spasms/cramps but they still come at night. I can’t not have any weight bearing on my foot to stretch the cramp out so I just cry and work threw it. I’m at my emotional and pain end. I can’t handle the pain until the 22ed. I don’t know what to do. I can’t get into a MRI any faster. I have tried. The Foot surgery does not know what to do other then the Beclofen he prescribed ( it’s 3 per day and I’m taking 6). I need a new prescription already and am not sure if I will be able to get another one. My Doctor (military my husband is retired)) does not know what else to do than the MRI and is trying to get me in faster. I am a very tough person. I also have noticed my calf muscle had split. I’m sure it is because of the cramps but not sure. I work on a Ambulance and had my Achilles torn for servers years and I finally had the surgery on the 4th when I noticed it getting bad enough to effect my job. I also have 4 kids and the pain I’m feeling when the muscle is cramping is worse than giving birth. If I could stretch it or stand to work it out it would not be so Horrible. Please ask around and see if someone can help me with what to do next.
Thank you
Deborah Lilly

I am so sorry for your pain. I too have severe Achilles pain ( not as severe as yours) I have Myotonia Congenita and people with that tend to walk on their toes due to muscles in the legs don’t relax. I wish I had a suggestion for you other than going to the ER but there I think they only do X-rays. I’m sure you have tried soaking in Epsom Salt. I wish your doctor could get you in as an emergency (not that has ever happened🤔) please keep us posted as how you are doing. Kim

Thank you. I had my husband get me some magnesium pills and vitamin B6. That was the only think I have not tried. I have had only a few today thank goodness. I’m dreading nighttime. I will probably go to doctors Monday again if I can wait that long. I know the ER will not get me a MRI. I tried already and I work sometimes with them so I know they truly did try lol. But I’m trying to hang in there. Hopefully I can get a MRI Monday and figure out what’s going on and the schedule another Achilles rupture surgery soon after. Thank you again for the feeling better comment 😄

@debbielilly70 I'd like to extend my welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.

You had a recent surgery on your Achilles tendon due to a rupture and now you are in an unbearable amount of pain.

Below I have linked a previous discussion on this topic you may want to scroll through.

You obviously need relief fast. Do you live in a place where you could get a second opinion? Could you possibly go to another Emergency Room at another hospital?

I have my MRI on Friday. I can’t wait. As for my pain. I am on muscle relaxers, pain meds and I have been taking Magnesium, vitamin B6 and potassium. With all of that my cramping has gone down. I have just a few at night and a few during the day. I saw my foot doctor today and I ha e Re ruptured my Achilles. So he thinks that is why I’m cramping so much. Idk. I’m just happy it’s not every 2-3 hours. I will find out more in money the 25. We have also scheduled another surgery on Feb 1st. Thank you a d I will keep up updated on what was/is causing the cramping
