Dementia/Alzheimer case workers at Mayo Clinic?

Posted by rbc11 @rbc11, Oct 8, 2020

I'm trying to track down for a neighbor whose husband has Alzheimer's if there are case works at Mayo Clinic that are assigned to help caregivers navigate the stages of the illness?

My mother lives in Cincinnati and there is a Health and Aging center at one of the hospitals there. They assign a case worker that the caregiver can contact at any point with questiond or discuss the current state. This allows the caregiver to discuss with an experienced health worker as needed questions about what to do - when to do the next stage of planning or when to go on without having to make an appointment each time.

I'm wondering if the Mayo Clinic provides anything similar.

Thanks

Hi @rbc11, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. There are social workers available at Mayo Clinic. Your neighbor can call 507-284-2131 for the social work department in Rochester.

If your friend should need additional support, you could always invite her to join Mayo Clinic Connect. Here she can ask questions and get tips and support from other caregivers who have been there and understand what she is going through.

Hi, rbc 11, I live near Cincinnati and am looking for help near by. Could you share the name of the hospital that offers case workers to guide MCI care partners on this journey?

Hi Ann,

Of course, this is a link to information on the center: https://www.thechristhospital.com/services/senior-health/health-and-aging-center

Apparently the center is run by two doctors. I do have to say the doctor that my mother and father saw had a very direct, my mom said even blunt, approach to conversations. It was a bit hard for her to take, but it got everything out in the open. She will spend most of her time dealing with the case worker who she said is very nice.
