Lichen Planus: Moved to my ear

Posted by lfj9487 @lfj9487, Sep 9, 2020

I have Lichen Planus affecting my genitals, my gums and I believe is now affecting my right ear. Has anyone else had it affect their ear?

Hi @lfj9487, welcome. Actually a few years ago Mayo Clinic researchers found that lichen planus in the ear, called otic lichen planus, is not uncommon. I'm tagging fellow members @becsbuddy @fancyrph @maryz @alpaca @loli and @march13 to see if they have experiences otic lichen planus. You can read more about them in this discussion:

@lfj9487, how long have you had lichen planus? What treatments have helped?

I have had it for 40 years, affecting several areas, not in my ears though. For my mouth, I've used a small amount of clobetasol gel at night. I've learned that sugar is a main culprit. Of course, stress always makes itself known in any weak links we have in our system.

I’ve had lichen planus. I use a mouth rinse beta methasone 5 times a day, I have to use a
Mouth guard at night because my teeth are getting loose .

@joy4trees I don’t have lichen planus, but I can attempt to help. Have you shown this new infection in your ear to your doctor? Or have you been to an ENT doctor (ear, nose, and throat)? Ear drops would probably do the trick. You certainly don’t want to risk your hearing by using the wrong drugs or none at all.
Has the clobetasol worked for you over the years?

Clobetasol works for a little while mostly as the flare up is subsiding , then I have a reoccurrence . I have a regular doctor I see and have now been referred to a dermatologist. I use an Indian Health clinic/hospital for services.
