Anterior Interosseous Nerve (AIN) Palsy?

Posted by liz223 @liz223, Aug 31, 2020

Is anyone familiar with Anterior Interosseous Nerve Palsy (AIN Palsy)? I have been diagnosed with this. It has caused three of my fingers to be numb, weak and painful. The doctor wants to do surgery. I am 88 and had rather find another treatment if possible. There would be an incision from my wrist to my elbow, long healing and lots of work. (I don't know what kind of work) I understood him to say that sometimes it take years to have fingers return to normal.

Hello @liz223, I augmented your discussion title to spell out the abbreviation so that members can find your discussion and hopefully share their experienced. I can understand not wanting to have surgery due to age and time to heal. Here's some information I found that may be an alternative to surgery.

Minimally Invasive Endoscopic Decompression for Anterior Interosseous Nerve Syndrome: https://www.jhandsurg.org/article/S0363-5023(13)00956-8/pdf

You mentioned the doctor wants to do surgery. Did the doctor mention or discuss any alternatives that are less invasive? Have you thought about reaching out to Mayo Clinic or other major teaching hospital for a second opinion?

This doctor only mentioned surgery. I have thought about going to Mayo for a 2nd opinion. I will not have surgery until I'm sure there is no other way. Thanks for your reply and the link which I intend to checkout right now.
