@fotula

I take D-Mannose daily. From what I have read, it causes no problems if you are diabetic. I also have started taking a new product I have seen on line and have researched. It is called Utiva - which packs 36mg of PAC's in each capsule. You take 1 a day. I talked to my Mayo urologist and he said that would be beneficial to take and would not cause any problems. Utiva also has a support group on line that helps quite a bit. Hope this helps.

@fotula, Great that you have discussed with your doctor because each of us has different underlying conditions. I am happy it is working for you! Thanks for sharing.

erlinda2003, a major part of your immune system is in your gut comprising an area the size of a tennis court. The balance of good and bad bacteria will affect your health as bad bacteria release urease. I encourage you to search on " Bacterial Urease and its Role in Long-Lasting Human Diseases" or click the link below for more understanding on urease. Fermented foods are important for good gut balance. I hope you study the subject of probiotics and gut health in depth as many products on the shelves won't help you. Also check out olive leaf extract and D-Lenolate for bladder infections. They kill the pathogens and spare the good bacteria..

Is D-Monnose safe to take by Type 2 diabetic?

@fdan and @cdink1941, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect

D-mannose supplements should be used with caution if you have diabetes. It may make it harder to control your blood sugar.
High doses of D-mannose may cause kidney damage.

Here's additional information:
- Can D-Mannose Treat or Prevent UTIs? https://www.healthline.com/health/d-mannose-for-uti

In short, more research needs to be done, but D-mannose appears to be a promising nutritional supplement that may be an option for treating and preventing UTIs, especially in people who have frequent UTIs. Always tell your doctor about any supplements you are taking, including natural ones and those bought without a prescription.

I, too, used to have recurring bladder infections. Then I came across an article about D-Mannose. I have not had any bladder infections for 2 yrs. I buy it at Amazon. Try it and let me know if it works for you. Good Luck. Marylou

@rosemarya

I have had my share of UTI's and since I have a kidney transplant, my only option is to get a culture from my doctor.

According to Mayo Clinic, a urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection in any part of your urinary system. Doctors typically treat urinary tract infections with antibiotics. But you can take steps to reduce your chances of getting a UTI in the first place. Here is the health information from Mayo Clinic where you will find symptoms, causes, risk factors, complications, prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Often, symptoms clear up within a few days of treatment. But you may need to continue antibiotics for a week or more. Take the entire course of antibiotics as prescribed. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/urinary-tract-infection/symptoms-causes/

Also here are some points about D-mannose that I found on WebMD.
D-mannose is a kind of sugar that is related to glucose. I read that it "might" reduce symptoms of UTI's. However, More evidence is needed to rate the effectiveness of d-mannose for its uses. I also read that D-mannose is POSSIBLY SAFE for most adults when taken by mouth. It can cause diarrhea, loose stools, and bloating. In high doses, it might harm the kidneys.
ome research suggests that d-mannose might make blood sugar control more difficult in people with diabetes.

I would encourage you to go to the links that I provided to locate the information that will assist you in talking with your doctor about your situation. Thank you Rosemary. I also have glumerulonephritis, a chronic kidney disease. I've been on steroid prednisone for the past 10 years now. Though my glucose had always been below the maximum 99 mg/dL, I am prediabetic. Both my nephrologist and rheumatologist told me that my HA1C is elevated due to the steroid I am taking. My internist mentioned D mannose to me, has not increased my glucose level though. But I exercise at least 3x a week so as to counter any rise in my blood sugar.
I suggest to consult your doctor before taking D mannose. What works for one does not mean it will always work for everyone else.
