CPAP: What works for sore throat?

Posted by cjeanj @cjeanj, Jun 29, 2020

I have a sore throat when I wake up and think it is from having air blown down my throat all night. Does that sound correct? Does anyone else have this issue?

@gramps

I use a Resmed N30i nasal cushion mask. I find it hard to imagine how the chin strap is going to work with it (the mask "straps" that come down the sides of the face to the nose are actually the tubes through which the air flows). Anyone had experience with this combination?
(BTW, I was suffering a lot from dry air - felt like my sinuses were being fried by it - the humidifier helped a lot with that. But my mouth does open occasionally, causing dry mouth.)

@gramps - I think Jim @thankful may be able to share his experience as I think he mentioned using a chinstrap with his CPAP mask.

@gramps Hi I also use a pillow type mask from Phillips and I put the chin strap on first them the mask. You may need to adjust the mask headgear a bit for the added thickness
My only issue is sometimes the chin strap slides forward a bit from.the back edge of my head. I use the following strap.

And I just added the pillow mask I use

Thanks @danab , I use a similar mask made by Resmed. What do you do if you wake up at night and want to drink? I keep a bottle next to my bed, and slide the cushion up above my nose so I can take a sip. Will I have to remove the mask and chin strap?

@gramps I don't drink a lot at night but have a few times and it wasn't a problem just lifting the nose part. I also on occasion have drank from.a straw mostly when I was in the hospital when usually the drinks came in a cup.
The chin strap being elastic will allow opening Your mouth to take a drink.

The only thing that works for me is sleeping with a lozenge in my mouth. I buy TheraBreath dry mouth at Walmart $8 for a box of 100. I use 2-3 every night.

Aren't you in danger of choking? There is a product to spread around inside your mouth. Available through dentist or pharmacy. Sympathize with you have a similar issue.
