Easy recipes

Posted by Funcountess @funcountess, May 18, 2020

Hi,
Anybody out there have a easy recipe for homemade potato salad. If so, please specify white rose. Or Yukon gold, or red potatoes.
I had a bunch of good recipes, but I see they were ruined.
Thanks

The deli seemed like a good idea at the time. I wonder if the employee knew he was infected. I thought the chicken recipe looked good but cooking it is another matter.
Eventually I would probably make it when I can't choke down anymore plain overcooked air-fried steak or chicken. Although before taking such a drastic step I'd have cereal for
awhile.

Jjjjjjjjjdduck1 Please be careful with your spelling of CANDY MAN,one slip and you could have HANDY MAN.
That can have a profound affect on your candy dish’s life.

@funcountess I have a great potato salad recipe, but it uses a vinaigrette, no mayo. Interested?
I had a catered occasion one time and gave the caterer the recipe and she loved it so much she asked if she could use it for other catering! The recipe was from my mother's family and it worked out great for me because my husband will not go anywhere near mayo. He loves my potato salad.

Thanks, will try and get some Yukon golds. Markets are void of food, forget about bananas, and tomatoes. I’m going to the market early tomorrow. I want some frozen cherries, and am low on Ben and Jerry’s.

@funcountess When I was a child I loved spaghetti with butter and pepper on it. I wouldn't dare now - not only am I lactose intolerant, but all of that butter! I pretty much use EVOO for everything, that and a lactose buttery type of spread.

I have some frozen cherries in the freezer and don't remember why I bought them. What will you do with them?

Hi contentandwell,
The butter, I only use very little on the spaghetti. Could not get sauce at Ralph’s market. My cousin a retired oncologist/hematologists said to use. Butter over margarine, or other spreads. For years my mother used margarine, and so did I. Then Richard kept saying butter is safer just use small amount. So that is why the butter.
The frozen cherries. I eat eggos waffles or toast breakfast or I make cream of rice hot cereal so I like some fruit on them. I Buy dole pineapple, or mixed fruit in cans, am getting tired of it, and love cherries.
Cherries also are an antioxidant. I am so limited on what I can make in the kitchen right now.
I have some lactose intolerance. It comes and goes. Cheese is a problem for me, but now I know about provolone cheese.
As for Ben and Jerry’s only a little bit.
Milk is a big no mo for me.
Cousin said bananas can off set intolerance with ice cream. Since bananas are high in potassium I usually cut up banana with ice cream.
For the past 5 weeks there has been a run on bananas at market.
I usually get food deliveries, but half the order is missing, so tomorrow I will venture out and hope I can get bread and produce among other staples.

Our local news mentioned there was 87% hoarding in California.

I believe the fear factor has taken over our lives,so markets have become high on the list to frequent.
Take care,
Funcountess

YES, PLEASE WOULD LOVE YOUR VINAIGRETTE POTATO SALAD.
I’m not a lover of mayonnaise either, and avoid it if possible.
When you get a chance I will look forward to your mothers recipe.
I did have a few potato salads recipes without mayo, but with the fire, almost everything either got misplaced, ruined, or packed away at the moving company storage.
My place looks like a disaster.
Last week my insurance company said it will probably be 2021 before everything is done.
And that is iffy. This virus does not help since work stopped in February.
Take care, and thanks again.

@funcountess Butter really is better for you, I believe, as long as it's used in moderation. For me though, even a little bit causes an unpleasant reaction. I try to use other things on morning toast or bagels, like avocado and occasionally jam. Occasionally I do use a vegan buttery substitute.

I most frequently have either oatmeal or plain yogurt for breakfast and with both I add fruit, usually blueberries. Cherries sound like a nice change.

Remember, not just provolone, but aged cheddars and swiss are generally lactose-free also, plus of course the very aged hard cheeses like romano and parmesan. Just do not eat so much that those traces of lactose add up too much.

Around here things have loosened up a lot. I can get food delivered on the same day I order it, and some days I get everything I have ordered. The most difficult things to get are yeast and flour. People must be baking up a storm.

Attached is my mother's potato salad dressing, very simple. You can eliminate the sugar if you want. The proportion of oil to vinegar is less than typical, which makes it tangy.

Hi contentandwell,
It’s late your time, but just got done with dinner. I’ve been up since 5:00 A.M. Thank you so much for your mom’s recipe. I already printed it out, and will make it on Sunday.
I will cut the recipe in half, since it’s just me now.
I will omit the sugar since I do not have any in the house.
It sounds so good, can’t wait to try it. I got to the market at 6:15 A.M. already there were 20 people ahead of me. They have a counter person who only lets 15 people in at a time.
All aisles are marked one way. I accidentally went the wrong way down one isle, and some man with his wife yelled at me, LADY YOU ARE GOING THE WRONG WAY WATCH THE FLOOR AISLES.
IM GLAD I WEAR FULL FACE COVERINGS. This guy got close when he yelled. Yes, he was wearing a masks, but his wife was not.
I was only able to get some items on list. Came home disappointed. I put items away, and had breakfast. Just as I was about to leave again to check out another market, the
Construction contractor pulls up and said he’s sending 2 workers to start on the garage.
He was suppose to send 5 but he’s spread too thin.
He stayed in his truck until the 2 workers showed up. He had one of those thermators that do not touch the skin. Used it on the workers.
Well, two people doing 5-6 people’s job, I see this will be all week job.
They left at 5:30P.M. I race to the market, and found a million people standing to get in.
Too tired I just came home.
Thanks also for the cheese info. I just buy SARGENTO sliced cheese.i can only tolerate one slice.
Yes, AMYS is in Petaluma,Ca. Did you know they make soups?
Not a big selection like Campbell’s. But that’s o.k. Campbell’s is full of salt, so I do not buy it.

I read your profile, you worked at ETHAN ALLAN.
I could of used your expertise after the Wolsey Canyon Fire.
EA has beautiful furniture. I had no idea they were a national company, always thought just California.
I’ll bet your place is beautiful.
I have Thomasville, Bernhardt, Kargas, but the Kargus was ruined, at least some of it.
Other furniture That is new came from a small custom furniture company.
Now I order from Wayfair, the quality is o.k.
I really like to see and feel the furniture, but at this stage Wayfair has been reliable.
Do you remember American of Martinsville? I think they are out of business, and Thomasville was bought out by Lane. There went the quality.
I had a friend who owned a design studio with her husband back in the 60s and 70s
I used to go to the wholesale show rooms with her, and see all the beautiful furniture.
I love BAKER,but the price tag, another story. Not sure if Baker is still around?
Anyway it’s late, Again thanks for your moms recipe.
Take care,

@funcountess I hope you will enjoy the recipe. For me, the red onion is essential. That was always part of the recipe. I added the green beans and I like that a lot. Not only does it add to the taste and to the look but it lowers the carbs.
When you bought the Sargento cheese did you check for zero sugar and that it is aged? Those are the important things.

I worked for Ethan Allen part-time in their customer service, I was not a "designer". When a customer had a problem I would often go to their home to check it out and photograph it and then try to get a partial or full refund from corporate. Our home was fully furnished at that time so I did not buy much furniture there. When we moved to this town I purposely avoided purchasing furniture there because I figured I would see the same thing all of over town. I am familiar with Baker, but our furniture is pretty much all Council Craftsman which I don't know is in business anymore. We have a few of a couple of other brands too that also did a lot of mahogany 18th-century style furniture. My living room is formal Sheraton Sofa, Chippendale loveseat) and has not changed in the 40 years we have had this furniture because the LR is not used a lot. The family room is the high use room and has a more casual style. Colonial style homes and furniture and 18th-century furniture were very big in our New England town.
Ethan Allen is actually based in Connecticut.
