"Are we there yet"? COVID-19 virus is far from gone

Posted by Merry, Volunteer Mentor @merpreb, Apr 7, 2020

Are you going stir-crazy? Feel cooped in and confined?

So does everyone. Unfortunately, too many people are starting to go out thinking that enough is enough and chancing infecting others. My husband just came back from a very popular market who has disregarded its own rules. BUT THE VIRUS IS STILL KILLING PEOPLE. Please, please continue to stay at home and follow safe living. There are some defined population markers that indicate when the virus is being suppressed to suggest that the end might be near but those are only very early markers, and only for that community. I think that it will be months and months before we will be truly safe. As long as one person has it no one is safe near that person and as long as there are restrictions on tests and no vaccine we are not safe, and as long as people travel we aren't safe.

We will get through this but the virus hasn't finished with us yet.

Are you staying safe?

Please watch the following - it's an up-to-date from Mayo Clinic and talks about everyday cares that haven't been mentioned before.

I have been "sheltering in place" for almost 4 weeks and doing grocery shopping on-line with curbside pick-up or home delivery, then trying to use disinfectant wipes on items. Was on holter monitor for 30 days and no concerns were found for that, so happy to get that news. Hope all of you are staying well. Baz

Hi @baz10- Good to know that all is good with you too.bIt's hard, this "sheltering in place". With stage 4 lung cancer I have been sheltering for 2 or 3 months now. I was ill and had a bad shoulder so I laid low for a bit. Then when the first case hit the US I stayed in.
I'm lucky to be able to walk around my yard and the woods in the back of me if not one else is around. But as of yesterday, I saw too many people out and without masks. Stay safe.

Venting here! I wish there was a rule that said people who "Don't believe in" Covid-19 were required to wear a hat, shirt or button that said "Stay away from me! I'm not taking precautions." And added "If I get sick with the virus, just put me in a room by myself. I will be OK."
I am quickly running out of patience with that attitude - at least the local government here is trying to help, with STRICT workplace and travel limits, backed up by law enforcement, closed parks (people would not stop gathering) and an overnight curfew, 2 people per car, no kids in stores and face masks in public. Hope to see our county "curve" start to flatten.

@johnbishop Fancy! We finished our second batch here yesterday - 48 made so far, and only 5 not yet claimed. Looking around for more supplies - we have exhausted the fabric "stash" in my tiny house and sister-in-laws motorhome, and the fabric stores here are closed as non-essential. The local quilt shop, a husband and wife operation, will do phone order/curbside pickup - I'll be calling them in a few minutes.
Our nurses at home have requested the old-style fabric surgical caps because their "bonnets" are all gone - and they are finding that viral load is the culprit in serious illness of health care workers, so anything we can do to keep it off the body ought to help.
On a positive note, my sister works at 3M (remotely these days) and says yesterday the internal news says they are at 10 million masks per month domestic production now and on track to double it when new production lines open in their US plants in a month or two (have been ramping up since January 9). Those masks are all promised to the US market. She wants everyone to know "factory production is like a big ship - it doesn't turn around on a dime."
Stay calm, stay safe!

We are seeing too many people out and about without protections and stores allowing too many people and young people during senior hours. There will always be people who don't follow rules just because they don't want too. It's hard to see this. We are far from being rid of this virus. You can't make people care, unfortunately.
