Visual Escapes and Daily Inspirations: Share Yours

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Mar 16, 2020

Let's create a space to offer a daily reprieve.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty and fear into our lives. Some of that fear and uncertainty can be caused by over thinking what is going on or unnecessarily worrying. So, I'm making sure I wash my hands frequently, not touching my face, staying away from social gatherings and all of the recommended guidelines to help avoid getting or spreading COVID-19 but it can be a little boring. I try to not watch news all day long while I'm in this self imposed captivity. I like to take pictures of birds and other creatures from my window as a welcome break.

I invite you to join me in sharing pictures, favorite poems, sayings, mottos, funny moments. Let's take a daily break together.

@lilllypaws Did I ever tell you of the time I had an encounter with one? Repeat then . We where up at out cabin in Northern Pa. I just went in the woods ,sat down when here comes a snow out right to me I ducked and he shot up like an arrow. It was beautiful . My eye got a close look at it I could see every part of the owl . Never forget it .

@lioness- He/she probably had a nest close by! Did you leave then or stay in the woods?

The spindly rose bush, a yellow floribunda type, has decided to bloom it's silly head off! This is the first of about two dozen blooms that will grace our yard in next few days!

Hello- I love nature and all its wildlife. In particular, I'd love to share with you a video about eagles, all kinds of eagles. This is what helps me keep at least one foot on the ground during tense times. About 5 years or so ago a friend introduced me to a family of Bald Eagles on the Raptor Resource Site. I was going through one of my bouts with lung cancer and this helped me beyond words. I could escape into a world I did not know anything about and leave health and illness behind.

Welcome to Eagle Power. The family of eagles in Iowa are the Decorah Eagles from last year. I hope that you enjoy it.

Hi Merry. You just made my husband's day as he loves eagles and I shared your link with him! I respect your choice to escape during challenging times of pain and uncertainty. I hope you are healthy and safe.
Thanks again and have a great day!

Rose-breasted Grosbeaks - not too happy with an almost empty feeder so got off of my lazy horse and filled it up.

@fiesty76 if you tag a person with their @membername then they will receive an email notification. Have you had the opportunity to look at the Getting Started on Connect guide? There is a link in the left column of the footer on every Connect page that provides step by step "how to" for different tasks on Connect. Here's the direct link: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/get-started-on-connect/

There's also another article that you may find helpful -- Tips for Participating in an Online Community:

The answer to your first question - ... you will both see the post??? -- we both should see your post (assuming we are following the discussion or you mentioned our @membernames. The answer to your second question - ...you add a note to someone in the walking group who doesn't follow this thread, they won't see your response to them? -- same answer, if they are following this discussion, they see the post or if you mention their @membername, they will see your note.

Hope this helps! Happy Thursday đŸ™‚

@johnbishop, Thank you, John, for your reply and the links. This very simple soul needs very simple, step-by-step instructions on many areas of life so I appreciate your taking the time and effort to respond. Have a great day!

@johnbishop Wow! What kind of birds? You are fantastic with the camera. We have bird feeders too, Get a pair of Cardinals, but mostly get Fenches and doves. My husband does not like the doves and has a BB gun that he shoots at them. I hate it, but he gets a kick out of it.
