Isolation: How Do We Handle it?

As boundaries are being mandated in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, these boundaries are affecting every area of our lives. Many hospitals, assisted living facilities, places of worship, libraries, restaurants, community centers are being closed to visitors and public gatherings. For many of us, these keep us from our typical ways of connecting with others and engaging with a supportive community.

THANKS A BUNCH, I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED ON WHAT THEY FIND AND WHAT THE TREATMENT WILL BE. I HAVE A BIOPSY ON TUESDAY NEXT WEEK AT 8AM. WON;T KNWO W FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND WHEN I DO I'LL LET YOU KNOW. I JUST HOPE IT'S TREATABLE. NANCY SHORTSHT. Yes, I finished the book, I posted about it in another discussion. Here is what I said,

I finally finished your book. What a neat story about you and your family. I really enjoyed reading about all of the community activities you were involved in, I know your community appreciated you! I also enjoyed hearing about your school bus driving days. You must have had great fun dressing up for the kids when holidays came around. I'm sure that they all loved you!

You talked about "dory fishing." I'm not sure what that was about. Can you fill me in?

The story that was published about you and Bob who helped the visitor get back to work on time was certainly touching. You and Bob had great compassion and love for people. You went out of your way to help and assist.

I'm so glad you wrote the book. It is a good example of what family, friends, community and faith should be.

@hopeful33250 What book is this? I guess Nancy @shortshot80 wrote it. Sound like a good book I would like to read.

@shortshot80 I would like the name of your book. What talent to write a book. My son who is a professor has always wanted to write a book, but we have no contact with him, so I don't know if he has or not. He is also bipolar 1 and can't even teach. His wife is also a professor and got her Tenure at Duke University. She is doing research and teaching at Columbia in NYC now. I guess my son does the cooking and shopping. They have an 8 year old daughter. Jeanie

In response to lilypaws: The book is "Shortshot" by Nancy Bush, but is currently not available on Amazon. I also checked AbeBooks.com, which is a great place to find out of print and short run books, but they don't have a single copy. I assume that the book was either a "print on demand" book or that the press run was very small. The cover art shows a Pacific City dory named "Shortshot," hence the name of the book and Nancy's handle on this forum. I think Nancy was ready to publish her book just after my old boss, the largest publisher of sport fishing magazines and books, quit publishing books. In this market, just one or two bad choices mean lean times for a publisher!

Pacific City on the Oregon coast, is famous because people launch their dories directly into the surf to fish offshore. It is the only place I'm aware of where such large boats are launched that way. Decades ago, my husband helped a friend launch his new dory at PC for the first time...and the friend, who still has the boat, claims that Marty's fingerprints are still indented on the aluminum of the stern! Dories are larger versions of drift boats, which were developed for Northwest rivers. Drift boats are only 20' at most, primarily powered through rapids by a strong oarsman, while dories are much larger, depend upon motors, and are used primarily offshore. Personally, I just don't trust motors! I own and row an 18' drift boat manufactured by one of my clients, ClackaCraft, in Clackamas, Oregon. I've known most of the fellows who designed the first drift boats, even floated the California Salmon River in one of the earliest, an Alumaweld from the days when the passenger seat was simply a truck seat. Today, drift boat design is far more advanced with wider hulls for more stability and easier rowing as well as features like rod holders incorporated into the hulls, movable seats for different types of fishing, even doors for easy entry and exit.

NANCYSHORTSHOT) A DORY BOAT IS 22' FEET LONG, IT HAS A FLAT BOTTOM TO BEABLE TO LAUNCH INTO THE OCEAN OFF THE BEACH.. WHEN DONE FISHING THE BOAT GOES PRETTY FAST AND SLIDES UPON THE BEACH AF FAR AS THEY CAN CLIDE. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BOAT IS TWO POLES ONE REACHES OUT TO EACH SIDE AND THEY ARE 22 FEET LONG. THESE HAVE A LARGE SPING ON THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE POLE. CABLE GOES THROUGH THE SPRING AND THEN FISHING LINE AND LURES GO ONTO THE POLE EVERY 15 FEET FOR A TOTAL OF 10 FISHING LINES. SO NOW WE ARE FISHING DOWN IN THE WATER 150FEET. EACH SIDE OF THE BOAT IS THE SAME. wE ALSO HAVE ANOTHER LINE THAT WE PUT 5 LINES DOWN WITH A FLOAT ON THE AND WE SEND THAT BACK BEHIND THE BOAT ABOUT 80 FEEET. WE FISH FIVE LINES ON THE FLOAT LINE. SHORTSHOT/NANCY)MOST OF THE BOATS ARE 22 FEET LONG. BY THE WAY I'M GOING FO THE HOSPPITAL AT 8AM IN THE MORNING FOR A BIOPSY ON THE FIST SIZE CANCER THAT GREW UP FROM MY GROIN TO MY RIBS ON THE LEFT SIDE. IT'S REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE AS IT MOVES AROUND A BIT. WHOULD REALLY LLIKE TO HAVE A SURGERY AND GET IT OUT,, BUT ALONG WITH TWO DIFFERENT LUNG CANCERS ALONE WITH EVERYTHING ELSE I DON'T THINK A DOC WOULD COME NEAR ME.
