COVID-19 Coronavirus and Lung Health: What can you do?

Posted by Merry, Volunteer Mentor @merpreb, Mar 1, 2020

Good morning- I have hesitated to post anything about this new and dangerous group of viruses because I am certainly not qualified to discuss any science. And certainly not about genetics and viruses. But I can discuss how we can lessen our fears, be as prepared as we can and very simply if we get it, what do we do?

First of all the COVID-19 is the name for many similar viruses. It's not just one. It is believed to have started by bat guana in Wuhan, China. Wuhan is the very large capital of Central China’s Hubei province. It is a commercial center divided by the Yangtze and Han rivers. This virus spread very quickly, perhaps like the flu. And because of travel. it is spreading throughout the world, and it is here in America. This is a group of very dangerous viruses has the potential to kill and has. Many of us with breathing problems must be very diligent to protect ourselves as much as we can.

You can help protect yourself by doing these things:

Keep your hands clean. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Cover your cough and sneezes to keep germs from spreading to others. Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces routinely. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Stay home when you are sick.

If you have these symptoms please see a doctor: Fever, Cough, Shortness of breath

I know that a lot of us have at least two of these symptoms already. So if your shortness of breath or your coughs become worse and you feel ill then it is time to seek medical help.

Here are several sites that have addressed the Coronavirus for more information.

If you know of anyone who is ill please stay away from them. Passing along the facts about this group of viruses is the best that you can do to help others avoid getting ill.

I know that everyone is washing their hands a gazillion times a day. Are they raw and chaffed? Is your face dry and tight? Here is some help

@merpreb good video, albeit a bit long. I never even knew there were handsoaps that had glitter! I guess people with children must be more aware of them.
I have been using hand cream more than I used to of course but I do not use it after every hand washing. We do not go out enough to have face masks irritating our facial skin. I think these days most of us are staying at home so much that is probably not as much of a problem as our hands are.
Thanks for posting.

Maybe you are washing them too many times, but I use O'Keefee's Working Hands and Merlot Hand Cream Plus Sanitizer. The O'Keefee's works the best. You can find it in a grocery store or order it from Amazon. As far as your face, do you use a cream on it? You may want to go to the drugstore. I go to Walgreens here in Urbandale, IA and they help me choose what I need.I'm 68 and I use L'oreal Revitalift 10% Pure Glycolic Acid. If I go outside I use Neutrogena Age Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 70. If I'm just going to be inside I use Botanics Day cream after the Glycolic Acid. At night I use L'oreal Revitalift concentrated serum and follow with Botanics night cream. The Botanics is not too pricey, but the others can cost more. I use to use No.7, but it is expensive. Hope this helps.

Good morning- "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention added six symptoms of the novel coronavirus to its list, suggesting health experts are learning more about the growing number of ways physicians see the virus affecting patients." WP. This virus has shown how smart it is. It's a tough and deadly virus and wants only to survive and replicate itself. I'm wondering if any of you who have or had COVID-19 had any of these symptoms?
The symptoms, which the CDC reports could appear two to 14 days after exposure to the virus, are:

Chills
Repeated shaking with chills
Muscle pain
Headache
Sore throat
New loss of taste or smell

@merpreb Thanks for the update.
Oh, no, more symptoms? This virus is the most heinous virus I think there has ever been. The thought of possibly contracting it is truly frightening, and not just because of our ages, although that does make the symptoms worse. Even younger, healthy people have had terrible symptoms and some have not made it.
Some of these symptoms such as loss of sense of taste and smell, sore throat and muscle pain have been noted for a while, but it's always good to keep them in the public awareness. While Chris Cuomo was battling it and reporting from his home he kept us pretty up to date on his symptoms, which was great. He is finally looking better but I have not heard any comments on how his wife is doing, she caught it after he did.

@contentandwell. I read that Chris Cuomo said he had chills so bad he chopped a tooth. His wife was taking chorox bath...1/2 cup of Chorox in her bath water, which I just cringed reading about it, she has used all kinds of unconventional methods like having billions of milligrams of vitamin drips by a doctor who made house calls, and some 'body charger' that sent electric currents through her body. Their children also are infected but I'm not following them.

@mayofeb2020 She took a Clorox bath? I am surprised, I would have thought them to be more conventional. Did Chris comment on that? I used to know a young woman (when I too was young) who put Clorox in her bathwater to lighten her skin. She was of Alaskan Indian heritage and wanted to be whiter! I did not hear of any harm she had from it but I would think that could get inside of you and that would not be good.
Hopefully their children are doing well. Chris really looked terrible when he was in the midst of battling it.

Yikes! I had not read that. It is fairly shocking. I hope she survives the treatment as well as the disease.
