Questions about radiation, post radical prostate surgery

Posted by jimb1950 @jimb1950, Feb 26, 2020

Had my prostate removed 1-10-20, post op showed positive margins with decipher of .91, now they suggest radiation, do they treat that particular area or whole bowl? How many treatments typically are done?

@bobvan

Colleen, what is the publication date of the Mayo book on prostate cancer health. Amazon has a copy of it with a 2009 publication date which I fear is much out of date. Thanks.

Hi @bobvan, It looks like Amazon is selling the first edition. There is a second edition (2015) available from Mayo Clinic Press.

I had radiotherapy and hormone treatment. The RT lasted 10 weeks; 5 days a week. The hormone lasted 2 years I got progressively tired during my treatment and glad when it finished, I know that a lot of guys have various problems. The main one is they lose control of their bowels. A friend of mine carries a card around explaining his problem and asks shops to help. In my case, I only had one disaster which was not a pleasant experience. The hormone treatment lasted 2 years and made me very tired, This a is a well-known effect. However, that ended some 5 years ago. My PSA is still low but I have serious problems with my balance. An MRI on my brain indicated that the blood vessels to that part of my brain have been blocked. Does anybody else have this problem?

@doncampbell So sorry to hear about your continuing problems. Is the losing control of the bowels from the radiotherapy or the hormone treatment?
